I'm thinking ether to have it support the story I'm working on so work on non adult works in the setting or could maybe do breathplay stuff maybe not sure. Depends on what dosnt cause drama or issues.

Yea I'm still on the fence too because it says right in the community guide lines and not sure if I want that much drama to go about. Personally would love to start a funder for the story help fund things like a professional editor on it and such.

In practice, they seem to be among the few reasonable and open-minded sites who don't seem to care about it. I took a look at their guidelines, and they don't outright say they don't allow porn in general! I believe they might only take issue with fictional works if they involve rape, and of course if it's *rolls eyes* cub porn.

Just make sure to turn on the NSFW setting on your page. It will unlist you from search results, but they require that in this case.

Yea they have a no noncom in there. So if I did go there would have to be my non adult or pinups probably. Though Like I said before the story would be great to get funded there too.

From what I can say, I didn't see any statements against allowing porn... just something among the lines of "we're okay with artistic nudity", which is a statement that doesn't cancel out allowing even more. Even if there was such a rule, would it only apply to real life porn or also art? There are a lot of artists who post all sorts of naughty stuff, and I've never heard of one being banned so far.

But overall it does depend on how safe you wish to be. If you want to take absolutely no risk, that might be the better option.

I've been thinking about doing the same thing, and have been doing some research. Patreon does permit adult content as long as it's drawn or rendered, but not photographic. However, I'm still unsure and a little dubious about exactly what is acceptable.

There's no harm in making an honest living off the things you enjoy, I think you should consider it.

Here's my opinion:
If you need money, Paywall your work.
If you need fans, Don't Paywall your work.

My normal commissions would still be posted on fa and eka so on as that would be a dick move to put them on a content only site like patron. So no one has to worry about me not posting stuff to fa and eka it would be fore funding my story or maybe something specific like some breath play so on. shrugs who knows.

Just because you have a Patreon doesn't necessarily mean you have to lock your stuff up behind a pay-wall entirely, though.

One strategy I see a number of artists using, with some success, is that patrons get to see the newest stuff right away, whereas everyone else has to wait for a month or two before you upload it to your FA gallery.

Another strategy (which can also be used in conjunction with the first) is that you can set multiple levels of patronage. You can do things like this:

$1 / month -- You get to see the pages a week before they're uploaded to FA.
$5 / month -- You also get access to the higher-resolution scans before they're scaled down to fit FA.
$10/month -- You also get to vote in polls suggesting what you'd like to see next.
$50/month -- You also get a cameo appearance in the comic as a background character.

Levels which promise specific things which require additional effort on your part, like cameo appearances, can also be made "limited edition" levels which only a couple of patrons can buy into at a time.

Oh I know different teirs and all that my main concern is getting something up and going and then getting ripped back down so on. Would love to work on more colors like one or two colors a month.

It's possible to set up your account as a NSFW creator page, then choose which posts aren't available to be seen publicly due to naughtiness.

HOWEVER: if you do this, be aware that Patreon doesn't allow you to be searchable. If you can't get people to go directly to your page they might not see it.

personally I'm fine not being advertised really. Not after a huge fallowing or funding just something that would allow me to do something I want to do instead of just commission after commission. I always feel blah being mostly a business as it is now almost everything I post is an order. This would allow me to work on some fun projects that I want to do and others might find nice and not feel like I'm putting off my financial responsibilities. The ol "I'm drawing something for my self when I could be drawing and getting paid." Though still be something along the lines that people would want to see so still NSFW for the most part.

They don't make their rules very clear, but if you check their legal page at https://www.patreon.com/legal they spell it out a bit more:

"You cannot create any content or reward with nudity, or realistic depictions of sexual or violent acts, unless you flag the page as Adult Content and make the posts only viewable by patrons."

Basically you can have adult material but you have to flag your account and make it not publicly viewable.
