Planting A Garden

Hey All, with a green thumb
I have a question for you.
I think about from time to time to plant some flowers on an old garage pad in my back yard.
The garage was taken down a few years ago and all that is left cement block base wall and the dirt floor.
So, my question is, can I plant right in that same soil. Or should I remove some soil and put down new dirt before I plant any thing?
The soil in my back yard has the top soil layer, but then its clay underneath that.
Do you have any plant recommendations that would work, with what I have?

diffently put dirt and then soil cause dirt is the main ingerdent for planting
You can also get a soil test kit at most large hardware stores. That will tell you the real condition of any soil you plan to use. Then from that you can find out what minerals and such that you might need to add. Have fun with the garden!
