the reactions of the neighbors (probably all white, let's be real) are fucking ridiculous. not really surprising, but ridiculous. if there were 10-25 white people camping, they'd call it a good time and maybe go share a beer with them, but - oops - actually this camp banned alcohol, along with drugs and firearms. big threat there.
"i keep asking why they're here and they don't answer."
probably because they've made it perfectly fucking clear to anyone with half a brain why they're there, dude. it's a logistical camp.
"there's no pipeline here."
that's why it's a good place for a logistical camp.
"there's no protest here."
nope. it's a logistical camp.
and as for the "they were showing off their bulletproof vest!" thing... okay? do you know how many videos of white men doing the exact same thing there are online? literally thousands. also newsflash! it's not violent to wear a fucking vest. it's self-defense. it shows a fear of others being violent toward you, not a tendency toward it yourself.
just call it like it is and say you don't want those durn savage indians living next to you. "defend iowa," my ass. just another bunch of ignorant racist assholes wallowing in their own hypocrisy. nothing new there.

the hypocrisy is astounding.
Less "military invasion"(???what the actual fuck??? Thats pretty fucking paranoid) and more the police showing up to move along a circle of people sitting at a park, having a good time, maybe drinking a beer or two - but the white family gatherings that do the same thing in the same park AT THE SAME TIME aren't moved along.
Is it because they have a picnic blanket? Is it because they are drinking wine?
Is it because they aren't Aboriginal, therefore "clean" and "well behaved"?
Its about time we stop being scared or disgusted by the people we have tried slaughtering.
They don't want to commit mass genocide, thats an US thing. If we could stop being scared of small groups of people that'd be great, thanks.
Now lets look at the facts, these people are protesters and the Dakota pipeline protest has been very controversial on both sides. On one hand, these people are concerned the pipe will tread on sacred land and if a spill were to occur, it would cause massive environmental damage. On the other side, they claim these views are completely unfounded and completion of the pipe would have huge economic value and less value on foreign oil, gas prices would go down as well as other advantages to having this project completed.
It's hard to say where the truth and lies are on both sides, but what is seen from an outside perspective looking in, is the protesters incite riots and try to use force, which I can't completely blame them as they're being ignored. While the other side is using force back against them and many of these protesters have been arrested.
So maybe it's not so much of a white people being "racist" thing and more of a legitimate concern of having people who employ violence and incite riots to push for what they want, an end to a multi billion dollar project they're concerned about.
I'd say they should take maybe get some actual science on board.
What do I mean by this? WELL, the world used to use leaded oil in gasoline, imagine the harm it would have caused if we still used leaded gasoline today. What made them stop? A scientist by the name of Clair Cameron Patterson, the man who invented the clean room and the man who discovered the closest approximate age of the earth. He lobbied to have lead removed from petrol, but he was faced with pseudo science and greed. But in spite of that, he pushed with the facts and proved it was causing harm not only to the environment, but also to people and children being born.
He didn't need to use violence, or to shout at people just doing their job, he went for the throat of the big wigs, and promoted a huge change that we all owe big time for him, if not for him our planet would be far worse off and you and I would be very likely to be born with mild to severe birth defects, because of the entire world being exposed to dangerous levels of lead every day.
That's how you make real change, not with a riot and unproven concerns. And hey, maybe their concerns are grounded in facts, but they need to do a better job at presenting it, shouting at some schmuck in a hard hat just doing his job, wont solve anything.
