v Journal starts here v So, I restarted my computer yesterday because my pen sensitivity wasn't working, and I often find restarting my computer fixes that.
Anyway, so, when I restart my computer I have no desktop, no start bar, nothing but my cursor or a blank screen. The toolbar that has the start button on it blinks up every so often but disappears and just isn't clickable.
I get the error "Exception ERegistryException in module aprp.exe at 000525B6. Failed to create key ASUS"
What the fuck does that mean and what the fuck do I do to fix it? I've tried updating windows and asus and ran my anitviruses and everything and nothing is fucking fixing it. I'm beyond pissed off at this moment and have no money because I'm trying to pay for a fucking wedding!!!
Anyone help please!

It's normally found as a run-at-boot item, although doesn't show as a startup item in any lists.
Judging by the error message, the program has faulted and no longer loads correctly, you should be able to remove it from the list of boot programs and it should stop the error occurring..
I believe in the case of aprp.exe it has a registry key that controls its boot, once you remove that it should stop it booting that program and windows should start to work normally again.
(Windows key + R and type "services.msc" without quotes)
If it shows up in the list (it might take some finding as I don't know what it would be named in there) then you can stop the service and switch it to Manual mode. Then try restarting and see if the issue continues, if it doesn't then the program was at fault and can be uninstalled as you said, if it continues, then something else is causing the issue.
If it's the first, then it sounds like the explorer shell isn't running.
Use the windowskey + R again and type "explorer" and it should force it to launch.
When I say that I mean, not even the background image. Just black.
Just got a few steps to try, if these don't work, a best bet is wipe/re-install.
1) Run chkdsk.exe to check hard drive for errors.
2) Verify that explorer.exe is present in Windows directory.
3) Verify (and correct if needed) that shell is pointing at explorer.exe and it alone, without additional parameters or anything, easy to see in Autoruns or in registry (registry path is below)
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Shell
How do I bring up the windows directory that would show me where explorer.exe is?
Also, how do I bring up the Autoruns and the registry?
Sorry I feel like an absolute newb atm lol.
And Registry is under "regedit"
Both those can be typed into the run command box and they should take you right to them.
As for autoruns it is a 3rd party software you need to download from the internet.
How do fix this?
PS Explorer.exe is in the windows directory
EDIT:
Okay just refreshed the Registry and it's now there and I found shell and the shell says explorer.exe
Other than trying a system restore (more than 5 days old) and seeing if that fixes it (although you will have to do the steps for the Asus program again) then I would advise a reformat/reinstall.
I'm flattered, I really am. That's up to you if you really want to
