~Pancan Information Masterpost~
Hey guys! We're finally putting together a big masterpost of all the Pancan information. We never intended Pancans to be such a "thing," but people keep asking questions so we've had to produce answers! If / when this gets edited further we'll update everyone as a reminder.
Pancans are an open species with minimal rules! This is all we ask:
1. Credit us for the idea. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: pancans are just red panda / toucan gryphons, but we feel that if you’re using the same anatomy and name as we did that you probably got the idea from us. That being said, we’d like to at least get some page traffic if you’d like to use it. You are free to link to any of our online presences, which include FurAffinity(here), Tumblr , Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and our website, CFStudiosOnline.com.
We ask to be credited in general, but especially on sales posts. That means there should at LEAST be a link to us in the description, if not a disclaimer on the image as well.
2. Pancans may not be used to represent any company or organization besides our own, and likewise cannot be the mascot of any organization or company. This includes groups, non-profits, businesses, etc. Pancan uses are limited to commissions (as in you were commissioned to make or draw one) or personal use as a design / costume.
3. Actually make it a pancan. If you want to call it a pancan, we ask that you please keep it a red panda / toucan hybrid, with no other animals or anatomical features involved. We also ask that you try to stay within the same anatomy as Kahlua, our first pancan: that would include a big toucan beak, arm wings, a long tail OR a toucan tail, as seen with Lumie, and big old chunky legs. Using coloration from other animals (or anything, really) is completely fine, as long as it is SHAPED like a pancan and only COLORED like something else.
Some more notes about anatomy. We have bolded things we notice people might need to be reminded of:
~Pancans can have any coloration / design but CANNOT have a heart on the back. Only Pancans designated by CFStudios can have back hearts, and right now these Pancans are Kahlua (the original Pancan), Matcha, and Caelum.
~Pancans have one solid "pad" covering the whole hand, not individual paw pads like on a canine, etc.
~Pancans don't have feather crests, back wings, etc.
~Pancans either have toucan tails or red panda tails. There are no naturally occurring nubby tails; if a tail were short it would mean it was a red panda tail that got chopped off.
~Pancans are very round / fluffy, especially in the legs.
~Pancans can be inspired by / based off of anything, but don't gain physical characteristics of that theme - for example, a cockatiel themed Pancan can't have a crest.
As of 10/4/2018, Pancans ARE allowed to be partials. CFStudios will continue to only make Pancans as fullsuits, but you are free to make a partial yourself/go to another maker. We feel it was unfair of us to enforce that rule, as there are many conditions that can inhibit people from fullsuiting including medical conditions, accessibility issues, etc.
4. Please keep it cute! We can’t control what you do, but we would really like pancans to stay as SFW as possible. Please do not use Pancans in any fetish / kink art, even if it's SFW. This includes but is not limited to inflation / stuffing, diapers / babyfurs, latex, vore, etc.
~Pancans can have gender but do not have sexes. This means they don't have primary or secondary sex characteristics either.
~Pancans are "created" by love and a source of inspiration. If your source of inspiration is alive (like a specific animal), a Pancan can suddenly appear when that source of inspiration comes into contact with a thing it loves. If the source of inspiration is inanimate, a Pancan can occur when you or someone else comes into contact with it and enjoy / love it. They have a small chance of appearing regardless of circumstance; no one is quite sure how, why, or what on earth to do with them when they do. Sometimes they follow you around like a duckling and sometimes they go do whatever; every Pancan is different.
~Pancans are "anthro" in the sense that they walk on two legs and can manipulate / build objects, but they do not wear clothes, have hair, etc. Every Pancan is different but they tend to have a very simple, animalistic (but well-meaning) mindset; imagine if your pet suddenly started walking around but could also use your microwave if it wanted to.
If all of the above conditions are met, you have our blessing, enthusiasm, and encouragement to make and sell your own pancans. We don’t think this is something we’re ever going to police; it’s more of a request, and we are absolutely delighted to see so many people already making and enjoying their pancans. That being said, we do regularly search for new Pancans just since we enjoy seeing them, so if our requests weren't met there's a good chance we know about it!
And, if for whatever reason you don’t want to meet the above conditions, just don't use our exact anatomy and call it something else! It’s only a gryphon after all; gryphons have been around as a concept for hundreds of years, and you can do whatever you want with them!
As a reminder, our official artist
qutens has made free use Pancan lineart! If you choose to use this lineart, please credit the artist! http://www.furaffinity.net/view/21450719/

I'm sorry if I keep asking so many question, but I want to make sure I don't mess anything up, but so Pancans 'grow', or do they 'spawn' full grown?
Again I'm sorry I just want to make sure I do everything right ;u;
(last one I promise, will there be any lore to go with Pancans in the future?)
It's okay! We definitely don't have plans to make any lore since we never intended for Pancans to be a thing at all; everything we've made in terms of structure / lore has been a direct result of people asking for it. This could change, we aren't sure (we definitely didn't plan to do Pancan "origin" information, but decided to in order to discourage NSFW content) but as for right now they're a pretty shallow concept. They're cute and not much else!
or are the arm wings required?
I've made this little girl a while ago, I'm really attached to her!!! I hope she does follow the rules of pancans ;;!!!!
Im getting an art doll made of her too!
I created one that isn't based off of anything in particular but now I'm considering getting rid of him because of that rule. Is it ok?
Like i don't understand.
I know for Dutchies they can minic words but the lore says that they don't really know or understand what the words are. Other wise they normally make just random sounds with no real purpose other then expression.
But can Pancans communicate? I know some birds have the ability to learn and adapt to speaking, just don't know of Toucans are one of them.
Thoughts?
Would it still be considered a pancan?
Thanks for your help!
