Well, that's one I didn't win

One down, one to go.
I didn't actually expect to win. It's still disappointing, but what can I do except keep writing and hope I eventually find an audience?
I do become frustrated. "Here, beautiful reader, I have made myself naked and scraped my skin and flesh away. I have pulverized my bones and burnt the marrow to ashes. Here is what remains of me, my heart's soul; the rest is not even dust. I had no one to receive it, so I have entrusted it to you."
Reader 1: "Yeah, I mean, it's got some weird parts and I don't understand subtext..."
Reader 2: "How am I supposed to jerk off to this?"
Reader 3: "It's alright, but I'm more into like, 'Timon & Pumbaa' fanfic."
Readers 4 through 15: *crickets*
Readers 16 and on: *don't exist*
Blah. lol. I'm ok, just venting. I don't have a lot of readers (I hesitate to use the word "fan" because they're more like "friends who also happen to enjoy my work"), but the ones I have are amazing people, for whose esteem I am grateful. So, I've been fortunate in that regard. And I've gotten some very flattering reviews, which is more than most furry writers get.
But on the other hand, there are some people (but not persons who would read my journals, so I'm assuredly -not- talking about you!) with large, enthusiastic readerships whose work is hollow and uninspired. And that's both irksome and discouraging. But, I've been irked and discouraged all along, so it's not likely to stop me now.

But seriously, I feel you on this.
A stick figure drawing of a pikachu with 27 breasts would get ten times the views/faves of any piece I have ever written. :P
