Con Report: Furlandia 2017
Being taught to avoid talking about Politics and Religion has led to a lack of understanding of Politics and Religion. What we should have been taught was how to have a civil conversation about a difficult topic.
This is my report of my attending Furlandia 2017, Age of Prosperity
I left early Friday morning, and had business in Portland and Tigard (HRO has $15 of my con money)
completing those errands had me arriving at the Sheraton at about 2:30pm, and as soon as I walk in the door, a staffer asks if I have had water, and leads me to a drink cooler. Evidently this year high attention was paid to prevention of overheating. (the temps were 80-90F all three days) I got my Badge, con book and lanyard, and promptly hit the Dealer's room, visiting Mary Lowd and Madison Keller, a Pair of furry authors that I know. I took in a pair of panels on Friday, Writing Furry with Janine "Demi" Scott, and after that one in the same room, What is a word worth? by one Rackleather, which discussed the value of writing as a way to make your living. There was not a whole lot for me to do after that, as I do not Dance. I spent the night in the back of my pick up, and learned that a sheet over foam really helps.
I missed a panel that I wanted to go to, Writing: How to make ideas work, for the chore of going down to Powell's books and getting Lore of the Unicorn, by one Odell Shepard, which seem to be a collection of the early fables regarding Unicorns. (my recently chosen area of study) got back in time for How to Word good with Lowd, Keller and Garrett Marco. about writing and grammar, and then on to Attraction to Fictional Characters, with Tim Bloom. evidently he was doing a study for a university and needed us to fill out a survey. I mentioned Empress Alicia, Krystal and Gazelle, and no one knew Alicia. The Coyotl awards came after, which seem to be a Furry Hugo award, stayed for that, only had heard of Mary and Madison's work, clapped anyway. A little after this, the musician GoH's put on a small concert, (Fox Amoore and Pepper Coyote) general musical mayhem, mixing of a lot of songs. Second night in the Truck. got woken up at 0400 by a team bus parking and loudly idling. can't help it. it's a 24 hour hotel. ate some of the food I had brought with me, (Peppered Elk Jerky is rather tasty) went back to sleep till the heat woke me up. I went back into the hotel, picked up some Sunday deals,
Attended the Hiss and purr, (con evaluation) and went to Writing Life with Keller, Lowd and Marco, and of course, Closing Ceremonies. Hugged some freinds goodbye and left, looking for a gas station and put $20 in the gas tank and headed home. looking forward to next year's con. 975 attended this year. I think we are getting to be a major con in our own right. and I attended from Con 0.

OP
One of the more interesting bits that I didn't include was a minor shopping trip on Friday night. the trains were delayed because of the incident on the news. we only heard "Stabbing" and nothing more.
