Yeah, I actually read your last BRIS Rocket story right before playing Episode 2 on the game. I'd say I'm pretty defensive over Rocket's emotional well being right now.

And yes, second episode of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series (& Knuckles) is very much onion-peeling flash-mob territory for Rocket.

Heh. I watched a Let's Play of the first chapter and wasn't impressed (Rocket was useless and didn't even get to fire his weapon after half an hour of hammering on and doing nothing). Then I saw the second chapter trailer and said "Holy shit Lylla". But after writing four Being Rocket Is Suffering stories I need a break from horrible things happening to him.

Not really knowing the comic story lines, I can't tell for sure how faithful the game is playing out the plot. But, (SPOILER ALERT) the whole plot is giving promise that deeds once done might be undone. Meaning the tear jerker bits may turn out better in the long run. Because, what the game says is happening...or has happened...isn't matching up with what I'm reading about via a Google search.

It is hard to take the sobs of the little guy, though. Very hard. Just want to reach through the TV screen and pull him closer and comfort...even if their art style looks more like he has Groot's style of fur.

Telltale causes emotions. Its what they do.

Two things you can always count on in Telltale games.

#1: Gut-wrenching drama, mostly from presenting you with agonizing decisions.
#2: Rage after discovering so many of the choices were phony and the heart-shattering results are inescapable.

Seriously, with all the games they've done, can anyone name any moment, in ANY Telltale game, where a character (besides the player in a failed quicktime event) who could have died at one moment does not just wind up dying later on?

Frankly, the only reason I'm not so apprehensive about their GOTG treatment is because Telltale has pulled this shit on me so many times that I'm all but completely desensitized to it.

It's like when Krillin dies in Dragon Ball. They try to play it as dramatic every single time, but after he gets blasted by Android #17 and 18 is shouting "You can't die!", all I hear is Krillin muttering "Bitch, please, this is my fifth time."

So if you're a veteran Telltale gamer. . . Sure, it's probably nothing those sadistic bastards haven't put you through a hundred times already. But if you're unfamiliar with the Telltale formula and/or deeply invested in this particular source material. . . Yeah, maybe put it down at the bottom of your to-do list.

Rocket's a good character to get hooked on and if you're feeling the feels from your writing you gotta be doing something right. I have like both sides you've presented that's for sure. Thank you.

I endorse this, just so you know. Anything that might further peoples' understanding of such deep rooted pain, even if they get it wrong, is healthy. I've always had a hard time separating out my emotions, so even if I can recognize reality from fantasy my proverbial heart cannot. I've had emotional connections to fictional characters before, including a few of my own, and these days I sometimes find it hard to keep from crying at some cartoon movie or another. So if this helps let you explore the darker, more damaged side of the mind, I endorse it. Just be careful, of course.

And while I enjoy seeing the predatory pics you most, quite a lot actually, I agree that the 'rocket is suffering' ones are the 'truer' ones. That pet bed is adorable, though, and I agree with your hypothetical Quill on it. Doesn't matter that it was a pet bed on earth, here, it isn't. It's a bed made for small to medium quadruped-build creatures, of which Rocket is one. It's just coincidence most earth pets are too.

I have another pet bed pic inked I'll probably color soon and some other BRIS ideas, like maybe him stopping by for a holiday dinner at Foster's place and them commiserating over the bad things they've done.

Well, preddy rocket and tortured rocket are not incompatible. We know Rocket had the shittyest possible creation story. That kind of torture breeds incredible anger and desire for revenge, so his treatment of his torturers/creators, and then after he finishes with them, transferring his hatred, fear and anger to all the other beings in the galaxy is not surprising.

Someone like that I can easily see slipping back into that sociopathic mindset when something triggers him. (ghod, I'm so pissed at the sensitive snowflakes who have corrupted yet another perfectly good term in the language. )

That's true, but in LWR 1-3 I like to think of him gradually becoming more "good" and eating people is pretty questionable behavior, especially when he goes and swallows down people even after they give him the info he wanted. 83

Think of this as a chance to learn something about a whole new realm of experience, something to add to your repertoire of character traits.
