8 rules for writing children's stories
General
I have used (with some liberties) these 8 rules for writing my stories, which I learned in Library School. I hope you may find them both helpful and uplifting. Also, I have at least one new story planned- expect to see that soon.
1. You don't necessarily need to pander to your audience. Kids are a lot more emotionally intelligent than adults give them credit for.
2. Never open a sentence with weather.
3. Don't be too descriptive of people, places, or things. Leave some room for the imagination.
4. Remember- kids prefer action over history.
5. Avoid prolouges
6. Don't use too many exclamation points.
7. Don't use too many adverbs.
8. Your sentences should flow from subject to verb to object.
