Letter to Sean Hannity

Dear Mr. Hannity,
I am writing in the hopes that I may convince you to distance yourself from Mr. Trump, if only a little. I am frightened that as the head of a major news company, in your zeal to stand by Mr. Trump no matter how credible the accusations against him are, you may wind up hurting both yourself and your fellow Americans.
There is serious evidence that suggests Mr. Trump has engaged in criminal wrongdoing with the Russians. The evidence from the Department of Homeland Security itself points to Russia; Trump himself has pointed to Russia; Putin himself has, if nothing else, admitted private Russian parties may have attempted to influence the election in Trump’s favor. Moreover, it is an established fact that Trump tried to influence James Comey to drop an investigation as a political favor to a friend- said friend Michael Flynn himself having lied about his collusions with Russia. In refusing to at least admit the possibility not all may be well, you set yourself up for a terrible fall.
But even before Russia, there were danger signs you would do well to heed. I speak here of the obvious- Trump’s proposed Muslim ban, his hateful remarks towards Mexicans, and his habitual love of power and cozying up to dictators. These are not liberal talking points; these are truths that are every bit as indisputable as the law of gravity! You had an ethical and social responsibility as the head of a major news organization not to convince people to vote for a man such as that, to say nothing of becoming his spokesperson. In refusing to distance yourself from Mr. Trump’s fearmongering and race-baiting, I can only assume you personally are okay with this so long as it does not one day turn on you.
No fewer than 5 anti-Semitic bomb threats have been made against Jewish kindergartens and daycares across Montgomery County MD, where I work. Let me repeat that- little children are being threatened with death because of their faith and strictly no other reason. Why? Because morons have taken Mr. Trump’s slowness to condemn anti-Semitism as permission. (We still haven’t caught them, by the way.) In fact, as I recall, after the epidemic began in February of this year, he accused Jewish activists of faking the attacks to make him look bad. And this surely pales compared to the spike in hate crimes against Muslim-Americans!
Mr. Hannity, I beg of you, I implore you, from one American to another- step back from Trump while you can. You can do better that to associate yourself with him, for he is not a man fit for the decent-minded! You are a man raised to believe in America and all she stands for- surely that includes all Americans and people who wish to be such? The only enemies we need to fear are hatred, cruelty, and insincerity. Do not use the power you wield to stoke them further.
Regards,
