My biggest issue is grammar; wanting to make stuff as different from English as possible but falling flat due to not fully grasping it >w> My last big one, Tsiktivy, is object-subject-verb with ergative-absolutive bent and then I got stuck on cases XD Its inspired by a mix of Navajo, Algonquin, Japanese and some Caucasian languages :3
I got the alphabet and some basic sentences written down somewhere
Grammar is a tricky subject, the biggest thing is to determine the proper grammar format, and then how strictly the culture adheres to it. Though admittedly I'm not too savvy on the linguistic terms anymore as I abandoned the project over a decade ago due to some very cruel people in my life eventually causing me to lose my passion. x.x
Though I wish you the best, sounds like you've just met a small snag. It sounds like a very curious mix indeed and I'd enjoy hearing more of it. :3
Aww, that sucks! ;w; and I guess they adhere to it a lot, its the language of a species of tribal squirrel anthros in a setting of mine called Breath: Song of the Spirits :3
Thanks! If I find the doc for it I'll let ya know XD
Another one is Selexoo Maadl'ei, inspired by Eskimo-Aleut, Tlingit and Haida :3 the name is roughly 'Language of those who dwell on the coast'
Sounds great. Admittedly I focused much more on what was being said in conversation rather than the language itself. Though I did flesh out some key phrases so that players could give greetings, say goodbye, etc. Actually, I'd like to share with you a Sharaen ritual.
*Acts as though removing a mask from my face*
No illusions stand between us.
*Puts my hand to my chest and acts as though gently handing you my heart*
There is no distance between us.
*Bows softly*
Let us speak as equals and brothers.
Oh wow, sounds like you're taking quite a bit of native American influence. I've found Inuit has some interesting sounds to it, though I do have a bit of trouble replicating them at times. I am glad, however, that you're doing that as the many native American languages don't get a lot of love and they really should.
It sounds like you have your work cut out for you, makes me feel bad bothering you. X3
That's pretty cool! ^.^
Yeah I like languages tha're not seen around as much, like Native American and Caucasian :3 Inuit has the same hl sound as Welsh Ll, and also a similar kh sound XD
No its okay! ^^ I'm just happy someone else has an interest XD
Selexoo is a bit less ridiculohsly complex than Tsik (which has affixes for tense, mood and aspect all slapped onto verbs XD), does have a preverb uu- to mark future tense though, 'Uuhoberepput', 'I will hunt' :3
Just keep this in mind, very intricate languages may be nice for formal speech, but odds at if a language is too intricate the common-folk will likely have a more accessible dialect. Just look at many of the devolved, crude versions of English spoken by the poorly educated and socially/culturally isolated. :3
Are you planning on making language groups, or just going to stick with languages? Either way color me impressed because it's a lot of work. XD
I might, so far its just one or two XD :3
Oh? XD
