Watch_Dogs 1 was a rather...mediocre to bad action adventure game made by Ubisoft, a new IP where you can hack anything in the world. But while this was ambitious, critics and reviews said otherwise. Due to stinging reviews that called it a "bad game" and a numerous host of problems and glitches, many believed that Watch_Dogs would be a one-time thing. They've since released a sequel, Watch_Dogs 2, and promised to deliver a breath of fresh air with a new location, protagonist, and new ways to hack and enjoy the online components of the game.
Well...they succeeded.
Watch_Dogs 2 takes place some time after 1, and ctOS and its company Blume have been changed. With ctOS 2.0, they're able to gather data on everything you do, from living habits, what you buy, what you do, no sense of freedom or privacy. Hackivist group Dedsec has taken the charge against corporate espionage. You play Marcus Holloway, a young man who had been falsely flagged for a crime he never committed and now seeks to get even with Blume and its partners. working alongside other members of Dedsec, including Sitara, graffiti artist and leader of Dedsec San Francisco, Horatio, a man on the inside who acts as another member of the team and insider trader, Josh, a man with high-functioning autism who is a master when it comes to coding, and Wrench, anarchist and fun loving guy with a cool mask.
As Marcus you can access to a wide array of gadgets and tools, from the trusty stun gun or a RC chopper and rover, along with your hacker skills, you can take the fight in any number of ways. whether you go in guns blazing, or be sneaky and hack targets from a distance, the world is open to you. As you gain followers and complete missions, you will be able to upgrade Marcus's skills further. From being able to hack cars to go haywire, call in hit squads from the local gangs or call the police, how you go about your missions is your choice. you will however, need Key Data located around the city and collecting it to unlock higher skills. Fortunately there are research points you can find that you can collect and store to grow stronger.
Upgrades are just one of the collectables you can get, as you can use the 3D Printer to purchase weapons and skins for your weapons. The trust stun grenade launcher is a must for any player wanting to be merciful, but if you want to get loud, you can get other weapons too. Not just that, but also clothes, cars and other sorts of collectables.
the world is your to control, and not just main missions, side missions offer glimpses into what you can do as a hacker, whether its hacking ATMs to give money to people or mess with them, pulling a reverse swatting on a troll, or even encountering a familiar face from the first game, you can explore and enjoy the world and its hours of fun.
Now there's the multiplayer, the first game had a...rocky launch with its multiplayer, among other things. 2 revamped it, giving you access to multiplayer modes you can enter or that can enter your world. the online opponents are Prime_Eight, another hacker group that gives Zero Days to anyone willing to buy, and the events can include hacking your opponent to gather intel on them, staying away in a game of cat and mouse until you win or die, bounty Hunt, which has you chasing your opponent and collecting data from them, and more. These events are fun, and when done can gain you more swag and bragging rights in the leaderboards.
the game boasts DLC for those who got the game and season pass, letting you try out more missions and explore some more fun with the game even after the end credits. Most are cosmetic but some story DLC have you team up with characters from the first and second game, whether it's hacking into a mainframe of a company working on nanomachines to taking on a criminal group, the game boasts some fun hours of playtime.
The environment and aesthetic look amazing, the city feels alive as you can drive and run around, petting dogs, taking pictures and even hacking other NPCs for money. Some missions even alter the landscape, such as tagging the Golden Gate Bridge with Dedsec graffiti. How you get around is your guess, but driving by the city in a new sports car, glowing up water mains while being chased by cops, it's exciting.
Anyway, i've spend enough time to enjoy my time with the game, if your new, recommend you try 2 if you want, if your a vet hacker, i say give 2 a chance, it's amazing. Till then...
