Munchen was quite intense. Lots of museums and historical sights... Love the black kids running all across U-bahn, crushing everything, because everybody around is too tolerant to stop them, and their mothers won't give a fuck. I'm not racist at all, but sometimes people just show they didn't go a long way from being monkeys. Oh, and a train to Neuschwanstein was 2,5 hours late. And was reversed at few stations before final destination. Ordnung as is.
Barcelona... If Gaudi made a trash can, the city government would charge every tourist 100 eur to see it. Love how they make money. Otherwise - pretty cheap, tight and loud, just as any southern city. Loved the beaches (especially the nude one, was grilling mah butt here most of the time), love the sea, but otherwise heat is killing me.
Berlin... Ehm, I know there are tales of "good western Berlin" and "bad eastern Berlin". I didn't see the difference, the city is dirty and invaded by 'untermensch'. Idk how germans can live with it, but wtf, it's your capital! Oh, and loved the airport. We had the same customs with the ppl leaving to US, and we both felt like 3rd world passengers, because the airport was small, hot and tight.
As for the culture - I've got lots of historical things in my city, so I'm not impressed. Otherwise - reality was 100% of my expectations. Was pretty fun though... But really expensive.
I loved Munich when I was last there in 2013. Even then it was becoming a bit like "Cairo-North," and not that different from Toronto, these days.
Never been to Barcelona or Berlin, they are still on my bucket list. I wanted to go to Berlin after high-school but my grandfather forbade it. He'd been there many times, but he never landed. Old prejudices die hard, but I will go one day.
Porec was nice, we were there for the 2017 WBTF international cup. My eldest took 5 top 10 finishes, included a Gold and two Bronze medals; seeing her on the podium (and my mate dissolving into tears of joy) was absolutely worth the price of the trip.
Rovinj Croatia was divine, a true gem of a medieval city, and just as nice as Dubrovnik, another walled-city that has to be seen and experienced to be believed. Montenegro is very nice, and I can't wait to go back. Cheap, good food, cold beer....and awesome vistas of black mountains.
Venice was gorgeous, but ironically, at low tide, the city is an open sewer. Not the best time to take a gondola ride, we found out. Still, it was worth the trip, and Murano and Burano are just a 5 min boat ride from the main Venetian island; well worth the trip. Get a 3 or 5 day water bus pass if you go, its the best way to hop around Venice that we could find.
Sadly, our next trip to the Continent wont be until 2019, when my eldest competes again at the WBTF IC Cup in Paris. Already saving my airline points.
