I don't think it's a matter of convenience, as much as it's a matter of safety. If it's an artist's only option for taking payments, I'd commission from someone else instead. Unlike credit cards, PayPal, and most other forms of payment, bitcoin lacks any sort of functional fraud protection for the buyer.

Most payments through a payment service like PayPal, or through a credit card bank, offer the buyer plenty of protection. If a seller or an artist fails to provide the goods or services, a buyer can almost always get their money back, unless they wait too long. I don't know of any bitcoin service that offers such protection. That makes it far too easy for a dishonest person to take money and never deliver the goods, and there is little to nothing a buyer can do about it. Wise buyers tend to avoid payment methods that are such high risk, unless they are dealing only with friends or family.

If you can't use PayPal, or another method, because of your age, or some other reason, I suppose bitcoin is better than nothing at all. A lot of people won't use it to buy stuff, but there are always some who will. Just add other methods when you are able to.

Another idea is to maybe do art trades with people. You won't get money that way, but you can get art that you would otherwise have to buy.
