Right—like how she's not a mermaid in canon! XD My point is more that the fandom does these things without realizing, not that these things are all bad. Fan art is a means of self-expression, after all. It's just weird that other fandoms don't seem to overwrite their lore to the point of forgetting it, like SF does. That said, being aware of this stuff has made me present a little more variety in body types, no matter the gender. I feel like it helps readers identify more with the characters if they're also tall (Six) or a bit pudgy (Erik) or have a small spaceship for a body (Allison).

Oh yeah, that was a fun one indeed! X3 But I definitely agree with you. As long as the character isn't presented in a way that degrades them, it's fine if Fox is given more muscle or Krystal is more buxom. As you said in the video, they're far from that only characters to get that treatment.

But it has lead me to wonder, why do we do this to SF the most? I feel like it's because the lore isn't very focused, and leaves room for additions and interpretation. That's just my guess.

I'd say that's certainly part of it. I think it also helps that the games come out so slowly that fans have time to forget what the characters are like and build up some ideas of their own. Having written fanfiction of the series, I can attest that we don't see a lot of the characters when the world's not ending. X)

Yeah most likely, and the fact that the character writing isn't always consistent between releases, like with SF64 or Assault. Granted, Fox grew up between games, but I say for all characters, including Krystal. XD

Pretty spot on. Rather than linguistic drift we have artistic style drift as people latch on to the parts they like the most and push the property in their own directions. Though he danced around the fact that porn pushed it in the directions it did a lotta the time.

Also I know at least to me Krystal's appearance in Adventures looks a lot more like a young teenager than an adult. I'm sure in Japan she probably appears closer to an adult given the average Japanese person's size, but for my two cents the fanart often makes her look more like an adult that I can be comfortable looking at.

Though I still have no idea why the blue color seems to make her so interesting - any fox could do a dye job and be blue!

That's a very clever way of putting it. : D And yes, they were trying hard to keep the video PG-13, so we talked about pinup art, but furries know what we mean.

Yeah, large breasts and wide hips are less common in Japan than elsewhere, so that makes sense. She's supposed to be 18 in Adventures, like Fox was in SF64. Nothing wrong with liking curvy ladies, though. Why do you think I keep writing about otters? ; )

Perhaps because real-life mammals are never blue? Plenty of other critters in Star Fox are rainbow-colored; Katt, for example. But they just don't have the staying power that Krystal does. The fur-pattern probably helps too.

I like a lotta different body types for sure (Many of them depictions of Krystal, hah), it's just the particular way Krystal was originally portrayed that elicits that reaction. And I will note that no depiction of Fox, of whatever age he's been, has made me feel uncomfortable for being attracted to it.

Though her appearance in Assault and Command is more matured, if not vastly dissimilar from her first appearance. Maybe it's the more intentionally provocative way they costumed and portrayed her that did that, but she seems more like an adult there. More like a woman and less like a girl.

Though honestly a lot of the art you used for your story headers are my faves, they hover in between the official look and "fan version" in a good balance. I reference them whenever I need to describe...proportions in my awful fan work.

As for otters, when moar Kylie and Max? They are my feel-good fallback lately. X3
