Question: The Payment Model of My Future Comics
8 years ago
First of all, thank you all so much for your support and suggestions. To address the elephant in the room: I'm not thinking of any other distribution method but Patreon at the moment -- but this will only stay to be the case until I have at least 3 different, equally sized issues. Which, if everything goes okay, planned to be around 8 months from now. Thank you so much for giving me suggestions on different sites and stuff nonetheless, I've been checking out a lot of them - I just need a little more informed opinion on that, that's all.
But my main concern is the "Pay per Month" vs "Pay per Creation" settings in Patreon. Pay per creation feels and sounds great for those who want to buy the comic and not deal with anything else -- but people will have to pay for everything else individually as well. Pay per Month is great, nobody has to do run their money accounts more than once to get anything they desire, but I plan on making 10-page comics in every two months (and supplying sketches of previous comics during in-between months). The inbetween months could prove to be more undesirable, and I feel like it's kinda shit to have everyone pay double if they are only looking for new issues. Granted, the comics will not be the only thing (I plan on Patron requests and individual pictures, while also providing sketches for the later comic books), but they'll definitely be more on the spotlight.
There are downsides to both of these and I kinda wanna ask you guys which one would be more preferable for you all. Unbreakable Bond the comic would still be 5$ the first month and 3$ the next month in Pay per Creation mode, mind you, much like how I envision my Pay Per Month tiers to be like.
EDIT, oh, also, I'm currently at 57% in comic's work.

FA+

its vastly supperior to the pay per creation mode, especially if you plan on updating your patreon regullary.
Thank you a lot for your support, you have nothing to be sorry about. I'm very glad you shared your own two cents and it's immensely valuable.
I feel and always felt that Pay by Month is just a simpler way to go (and it seems to be the most popular approach). People know how much money they're paying and (more importantly) when they'll be paying it. Allows them to budget etc. And with the rewards tiers, it'll give people the choice to simply support you month to month because they love you and what you create ^3^!! and not just because you released something <3 And it offers the choice for people to say... pay a small amount per month to see WIPs/Sketches/Exclusives/Timed-exclusive pieces or pay a bit more and gain access to all your comics too.
Pay per creation gets a little... unpredictable. If you catch people off guard with too many submission within a month they can be put off by how much they're paying. Granted this is probably not going to be a problem for you hun, because of how long the comics will take to make (If releasing them once they've completed). However another fuzzlebum comic artist uses the Pay per creation model quite effectively, charging peeps $1 per page he uploads (as his lowest tier) -> https://www.patreon.com/Karno Which is not a terrible amount to stomach for a full page buuuut too many pages and yea >x< How averages about 3 pages per month tho, which is fine for me at least :) <3
Sorry for my super duper obvious bias towards Pay by Month C///X <33 I support artists who use both methods but for me personally Monthly is the way to go <3~ But hey, it's not like you'll be locked in to either method once your Patreon is all set up, you can always change it :)! (https://patreon.zendesk.com/hc/en-u.....-per-creation-) <3
Hope I was able to help~! *Mwah* Stay wonderful and keep up the amazing work, Cuisine \(^3^)/ <3
The moment I realized that I won't have to be locked in one style is the key for me. I still wanna do Monthly when it becomes more viable when I become eligible to the "pay up-front" method which seems to fix a lot of problems.
Thank you so much <3
Bare in mind that a lot of people are probably all ready supporting at least one other Patreon, and obviously people can't support every Patreon they want to unless they've got tons of disposable income. I myself am all ready supporting 3 Patreons, so I need to be selective with who I support from now on. If a Patreon is too expensive then I can't realistic support it.
