It's more a case of the left wanting to do a devil shift(and really really insisting) and the new right hasn't really coalesced into a coherent ideology yet. So you have one side going "It's us versus them" and "them" is a bunch of different groups in a power struggle for the new movement, leading to mass confusion and exploitation of that confusion
