Hello again everyone! This journal is going to discuss our plans for future commissions and hopefully make it clear on what's going on! It's getting a little tiring to keep explaining it, so we are most likely going to refer people to this journal for further explanations. If you still have questions after reading all of this, feel free to contact us!
Small Table of Contents:
1. Dates and events
2. How to Get a Future Spot
3. Payments and Shipping
4. Our Turn Around Time
5. What we expect for future commissions processes and policies.
6. Our Future Plans
7. What are we going to be offering - New Base Patterning!
8. Prices Increasing
We are sorry in advance for typos, this is one big journal entry!
We have booked a room and just paid our registration for Midwest FurFest, so we have full intentions of attending there! We should be there the full Thursday-Sunday weekend, and will definitely be taking our scalie Galahad suit with us! So here are our guess at what are plans are going to be:
-November 30th or December 1st: The online google form will go live for the public to submit commission requests.
-December 1st-3rd: We will be crossing our fingers to attain an artist alley spot at MFF. We will not be taking our big merchandise with us this year since it is against their rules now. We will be having small gauntlets and keychains available however, and maybe some drawstring bags. While we are AT THE CON, we WILL NOT be looking at the google form submissions. We really want to enjoy our convention experience this year. We WILL NOT be answering basic questions or giving quotes while we are there. However, in preparation, we will be trying to have a structured Q&A and give clear instructions on our forms. For those who have filled them out before, they will be a little different.
-December 3rd-10th: We will be reviewing online forms and contacting people!
Some Important Notes Regarding this Commission Opening:
-We will not be accepting online forms first come, first serve. We want to take commissions that we personally would like to work on.
-We will not be accepting online forms that are not completed - see #2 and #5 for more details on that.
-Depending on how well we do at MFF and how many slots we take there, we are not guaranteeing that we will take any form submissions. We really truly don't know how well or poorly we will do there this year, especially considering some recent interest we have been receiving (not gloating, we seriously are not used to it, although it's very appreciated).
-We will not be taking any work that we won't be able to complete by May 2018 for personal reasoning.
One of the major aspects that we look for when selecting forms is if there is a genuine interest and understanding as to what we are making. We do not expect experts whatsoever, but we do put out a lot of information so you can know what you're getting into. Our website will be updated prior to this opening. We are a little behind on it know, but come December 2017, it will be updated and hopefully running correctly so information can be easily read and comprehended.
We have been having a major problem with people not knowing what they're buying or obviously maybe saw a video and assume we can knit absolutely everything! No, sorry, as much as we like experimenting, we have limitations. With these limitations, we have set pricing and sizes on what we can offer. So primarily, please put in a little effort in checking out our information on the website once it's updated!
Another way to increase chances of getting in our queue is being able to communicate effectively. If we have no idea what you're trying to get across in a instant messaging chat or on the form, we don't want to take the risk of accepting your request at the expense of us making something that isn't quite what you were looking for. In addition to that, we will be kindly asking people to act appropriately and message us in a somewhat professional manner - this includes speaking in full sentences and PLEASE proof read what you're typing.
Before we head out to the convention, another way to start the process can be filling out our quote form as it is pretty similar to what we are going to have for the official form(s). This can give you an idea of a price range and practice with how we run things!
This section is a quick overview of how we go about payments and shipping. If you've already custom bought stuff from us in the past, the information is still pretty much the same.
If commissioning via the online custom google form, we will only accept payment via Paypal, in the invoice system. No other options will be available this batch. If you plan on commissioning, please make sure your payment is set to go, and not just setting it up - there will be a delay while Paypal is confirming and approving account information. We will not wait past out set deadline for payment. It is nothing personal if we cancel your invoice, we just cannot wait an extra week to get materials ordered. So this is your heads up now to have it prepared!
The invoice system is quite simple for both parties. We send an invoice regarding all the information you'll need while also having a clear description for us to follow when we get to your commission! We can set up a minimum payment plan (as discussed in detail below), shipping labels with your tracking and insurance information, and our important links for you all in one online document!
As always, if your grand total (total + shipping) is over $50, we will offer a payment plan! 50% of your grand total will be due by our deadline for you to secure your slot. Queue placement for slots are determined via when we receive that 50%. You're more than welcome to pay more than 50%, but it will not bump you up above others before you. If you have a desired date for your commission to be completed by, please put that in your form submission. Dates are NEVER guaranteed, but we can always try if we know way ahead of time.
We do not have a set schedule that you must be making payments by - we only ask that payments are in larger groupings (more than $50 per payment). Paypal charges a fee to us every time you make a payment on top of the percentage. It is small but if you continually just keeping throwing $5 here and there instead of saving and making one or two other larger payments, it is a little irritating. We are trying to keep our prices reasonable so work with us ;)
Once your item is completed and your invoice is completely paid off, we will ship out your item! We do have pretty limited vehicular usage, so we typically make trips on the weekend. If we complete your item and the invoice is not paid off, we can hang onto your item for no more than 30 days unless there is a prior negotiation. If you think this may be a problem for you, please rethink custom commissioning us and take care of yourself! Reminder that these are luxury products, not a life or death item that you must have to survive!
Currently, our turn around time is within 5 months. Sometimes we can complete something in a week (like small keychains) if we have the materials on hand. For larger items, expect a few months for it to be completed!
We are currently a 3 worker team - We have 1 primary maker who does about 95% of the work, whom is also a double major in her 4th year of college. Our secondary worker has become extremely busy with her life and education, and we are wishing her the best of luck! She does however work on smaller projects when she has the time. Our 3rd worker is our book keeper and model! With that in mind, the 5 month turn around time might be extended, not because we don't want to work on your stuff, it is because we literally have hours of homework and studies we are paying thousands of dollars for. We very kindly ask for patience if you consider working with us. So far, we have completed everyone's customs in the past, however, some have taken longer than expected. We still have not taken more than 4 months to make something, but we do want to give you the warning!
When in our queue, because some of this stuff takes longer to make, if you're farther down in our queue with a large order, it is very possible that you won't hear anything from us for a few months. You're more than welcome to check in with us, but we don't take too well to constant pestering. We have a very active and up to date public queue that we have extremely accessible that you may keep up with us on there. We, also, now have an active and friendly telegram chat that we post wips and quick updates on if you'd like to join that!
If you have a custom idea in mind and have a date that you'd like it by, it would be very safe to have it ordered 4-5months in advance, especially if it's large!
This is probably going to be one of the more important sections in this journal due to some recent past experiences. Please read carefully! We swear we are not being mean, but we have to lay down our law now due to being a easy push over in the past. Please be respectful of our decisions - we are trying to make the process as smooth as possible!
1. Custom Commission Requests will no longer be accepted if you have not filled out our form. We are not making any more exceptions. It is your responsibility to fill out the form correctly and have it go through. We are not an IT group and will not walk you through how to fill out the form or how google works.
2. Custom Commission Requests will not be considered if the information given makes no sense and it's obvious you haven't looked over what we actually make or have contacted us prior to filling out a form. We spend hours out of our day to make sure all the information you'd need it available. Yes, we are more than willing to answer very specific questions, but asking stuff like what colors or what "fabric are we using to sew these on" will be ignored or refereed to our website. Like we said above, we do not expect you to be experts, but we make it really obvious what we make and offer.
3. Inappropriate conversations will be met with a polite request to stop immediately. Yes, we are females working with metal and making costume wear, please stop flirting with us. We want to make you fun, custom, jingly items to your liking, NOT roleplay and hug and be your best friend! You will receive one warning; we won't think less or judge you, just simply tell you to please remain professional. Please make sure your reference sheets, if you have one of a character, that any NSFW content is censored adequately. We take some of our work to classes with us and rather not explain sensitive dragon parts to our peers or professor.
4. Providing a Government Issues ID. Personally, we have yet to experience anyone who has tried to scam us or given us a hard time. However, very recently we have been seeing an increase in scams and want to protect ourselves. ALL future buyers MUST show a photograph of their face and them holding their government issued ID that clearly shows a name and birth date. You may black out other information like an address or other personal information on it. We will also no longer be accepting anyone under 18 years old. If a minor has an interest in our wears, we suggest they have their legal guardian get in contact with us. The legal guardian is in charge of filling out the commission form.
As we are typing this, we are very unsure what's to come at the end of April 2018. Our secondary maker lives far away from our primary and book keeper, and they have their own summer aspirations. Our primary worker, Jaye, potentially has a very big internship opportunity that would be taking place all summer and in an entirely different state in the USA (easily 500 miles away from Michigan). Although we love making this stuff, we are paying a ton of money for different, long lasting careers. This internship may happen in 2018 or 2019, she isn't sure yet but we will keep everyone posted! Because of this, though, we will be closely monitoring how much commission work we are taking in so we don't over book ourselves.
In regards to the dragon head, we kindly ask that requests for a custom one stop. Galahad was purely an experiment to see if it was possible. We really want to make more but have a ton to learn if we continue. We hope this is understandable. Who knows, we are barely into our 20s. No one knows what the future holds! If we do decide to make more, expect premade artist designed ones to be available first. We need to learn how to make them easily and comfortably worn before we are comfortable selling them.
Here is the list of items that will be available in December! All item examples will be available on our website once updated. Our prices and products page has been glitching out.
1. Gauntlets Sizing Small to Extra Large. Right now, the prices range $20-130 for the pairs.
2. Scaled, Clawed, and Padded Finger Extensions on Gauntlets. +$50 for scales and claws, +10 for the hand padding.
3. Scaletails Sizing Small to Extra Large. $50-150.
4. Drawstring Bags Sizing Small to Large. $20-40.
5. Keychain Tail Minis. $10-17.
If you're curious about the dragon head, read up in section #6!
Prices above are only based if you get into the last batch in December! Read up in section #8 for the price increasing information!
The time is finally coming that we need to have a bump in our prices. Come January 2018, we will have been working on this stuff for 2 years! We realize that is not a lot of time comparable to other suit and artisian makers, but it is a lot for us! We have learned a lot in 2 years and have honed our skills to specific patterns for our stuff! Currently, we are working well under minimum wage and would like to keep expanding, but cannot do that with the current pricing.
So what should you be expecting?
The smaller items, like keychains, probably won't see an increase, but small gauntlets and bags, will probably be seeing a $5-15 increase. The larger items like the floor dragging tails and full length arms will most likely be getting a $30-60 price increase. These items take well over 24 ours of work time put into them, so we are still not pricing them up to minimum wage but they will be a little more pricey.
We highly suggest getting into this last 2017 batch if you'd like our original pricing!
We are going to be changing our quoting system soon. You can still fill out a quote form for our current pricing, but once January 1st, 2018 rolls around, those prices will most likely not be accurate anymore. We will be making a physical quote form to be giving to those who fill one out in 2018 however. This will make it easier for both parties if the person interested would like to commission later. We work and communicate with tons of people now and have a hard time keeping everyone and their details straight. So hopefully this will help us out! We love discussing things with you guys and swear we wish we had a better memory!
Thank you for taking the time to go through and read this if you did! This will be our go to journal for basic update information for the next few months. If you've read through all of this and still have questions, you're more than welcome to contact us! Due to college, we can be quite busy until around 6pm Eastern Standard Time, so please respect that and don't spam us! We are pretty good about responding to people but this year, we have a lot of professors with anti-cellular policies.
We hope to see some of you at Midwest FurFest and do some business! If you see us at the convention, you're more than welcome to come up and play with the jingles! Simply ask before touching, but we usually always let people pick up and play with stuff ^-^
We hope you have a wonderful Autumn and we send out good vibes to all those around the world who are struggling with the effects of climate change right now! We hope you all stay safe!
