Sounds like they only take against against mainstream stuff that the general public may get outraged over, versus more 'obscure' stuff.

Its more that communism has actually become 'mainstream'. It is far from obscure, eventhough i am pretty sure the people that celebrate the ideology don't understand how aweful, bloody and destructive it is. It is just 'the new cool thing to be' essentially for a lot of people. Eventhough communists have been top of the list of 'enemies of the free world' for decades.

Well, i'd say communists and their various offshot groups (like certain portions of antifa) have been plenty busy. Its just, the media narrative dictates that outrage should be directed elsewhere. So, it is effectively percieved as if they were inactive, regardless of their activity.

In Serbia, where my parents are from, we had for a long time a socialist nation, so I know a great deal about it. It was opressive and a dictatorship, and communism is without a doubt a very inhuman ideology that no person should have to experience.

But when we're talking about communism and national-socialism, it is a fact that the US decided to fight with the Soviets against the Nazis. Probably more out of a necessity than real friendship of course. But honestly, if I absolutely HAD to chose between two people, than I would rather take the Communist than the Nazi. Communism itself isn't necessarily build on the principle that one race is the supperior one and that some should be exterminated. That doesn't mean communism can't lead to incredible attrocieties, they had their concentration camps. Both ideologies should be fought though.

What I see as a problem is when people try to create a moral equivalency between the Antifa and Neo-Nazis. Antifa, as stupid as it is, is not comparable with Neo-Nazis or the KKK. That's like saying the whole Punk movement is at fault for some of their idiots, who burn stuff in the name of anarchy. Again, I am not saying that I agree with any of them. But if you really learn about both groups, Neo-Nazis and the Antifa you have to acknoledge the fact that one of them is the worse ideology, because even if SOME people might think it, Antifa as organisation and structure isn't build in the principle that one race or religion should be exterminated.

I'm on the blurry line of Gen Y and Gen X, but anyone really all that much younger than me never grew up exposed to the horrors of Communism and it's not something that's really taught in school in the USA. People thankfully know enough about the Nazis to rightly say 'Never again', but if you mention the Purges, the Holomodor, the Gulags, the Great Leap Forward, or the Killing Fields and you'll get a blank stare. They're never exposed to it and they don't know that those things eclipse the scale of the Holocaust by more than an order of magnitude. I swear I just need to throw a copy of Solzhenitsyn's 'One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich' or Applebaum's 'Gulag' at them. I see college students walking around wearing Che Guevara shirts with no idea that he was a mass murderer and grotesque homophobe.

Sigh.

I work part time at a local technical college... Which as an amusingly related little anecdote, when i was hired on, i had to sign paperwork attesting to the fact that i am not a communist, or affilated with any communist group.

One of my students though, a couple semesters back, was an immigrant from cambodia. And one time in between labs, we got to talking about where he was from, and he told me about his experiences as a child during the killing fields, and how half of the people he knew ended up laying dead in those countless mass graves.

I knew a guy who spent two years in a POW camp under the Nazis and then a decade in a gulag before being released and emigrating. Harrowing stories.

The new rules don't come into effect until the 18th so technically they're correct in refusing to take it down

Another fun fact, both nazism and communism are extremist left-wing ideologies, and the KKK were Democrat supported, if I remember right. The left is just doing a good job at pushing its mess under the right's rug.

yeah, that's pretty much hitting the nail on the head.
Though I think in some cases, there is also the issue that no one bothers to look at history anymore either, cuz a lot of this is there if anyone really looked. Basic school history lessons gave the start, you just had to dig deeper and read between lines. Only few care to even read the page in the first place it seems.

I ended up in a debate with someone and pointed out how all these things were started/supported by Democrats, and their reply was, "what does that matter?" right after asking if I knew the original reasons behind BLM and Antifa. (Which of course I knew and pointed out how those have been thrown away by their own actions, but eh)

The southern Democrats were deeply conservative at the time. The Nazis are authoritarian and neither strictly Left or Right wing. The Strasserist wing of the Nazis which split from them were however definitely Left, but largely a historical footnote.

Honestly, I'd prefer it if we could find a way to get IRL politics off of FA. I have never seen so much hate between people when it came to the presidential election. People blocked people for just supporting a candidate, every journal was a straight up hotbed of insanity and flaming, and it's just... eugh.
