I love the people of FA

I love when people get nicely worded critique on drawings and they end up just yelling at who gave them the critique.
If your character can swallow a watermelon with no discomfort, the neck is too big fam
At least the person was nice about it and complimented the rest of the art lmfao
Edit: alright yea randomly bobbing in with unasked for critique gets on people's nerves but I still don't think you should go ham on the person critiquing. Especially when they're chill about it. Just be like "Cool, I didn't ask for critique tho"
They offered advice, they didn't kill your crops and take your children
Maybe the artist knew but decided to post the art anyways? (just looking at it through an artists pov)
Like, I would totally understand if the artist asked for the art to be critiqued but idk..
Its kinda like going up to someone irl and going "Your outfit is nice but your shirt is ugly, try ____ next time, but overall everything else is nice"
Even though theres a compliment in there its still v rude unless that person asked a group of people to tell them if the outfit is okay or if there needs to be any changes to it ya know?
An outfit is one thing but art is a skill that can be learned and improved upon. The person didn't tell the artist that their stuff was ugly, they pointed out that the neck was a bit off and the artist just snapped at them. This is something fixable and something you can learn from.
Getting angry and ignoring all advice is something something I did in a middle school art class.
If you got a math problem very wrong, would you rather not be told and fail the test or worse if it's a real world application?
As an artist you need to learn to take critique. I think the person lightly pointing out the artist's mistake wasn't in the wrong.
When it comes to art, if the artist themselves aren't asking to be corrected then nobody should try to correct them, since art is not a form that can be correct or incorrect in the first place.
There's a time and place for everything, you either ask for something or you dont.
Though I don't know the full situation or anyone that was a part of it, nor do I know what the artist said or what the commenter said but
there is a difference between refusing all critique and being angry at someone for critiquing something you never asked to be critiqued in the first place :c
I could understand if the artist was like "haha fuck off and shut the fuck up, kys you're worthless and im 10/10 better than you"
but idk, I don't know what artist or submission you are talking about but as far as I can tell the artist doesnt seem that much in the wrong for getting upset, but I guess that's something we can agree to disagree on
I understand that people get mad about having people critique them, but yelling at someone is not the way to handle it. Tell them you didn't ask for critique, hide their comment, or just don't respond. Don't start snapping at people. That just shows that you're stuck in your ways and think everything you do is awesome.
And as another person mentioned, if you don't want critique you shouldn't post things online on open forums. Any number of rude people could have commented on how their drawing looked. I was waiting for someone to have the balls to mention what was wrong. I wouldn't have done it, because I know how many people can't handle critique and how many people support not handling critique.
I think I've said all I can really say without just repeating things. But disagreements are chill, they make life spicy.
Have a good rest of your day
I can understand not responding kindly to something like I said in this journal "that neck looks like it could deep throat a watermelon." That's totally fine.
What I saw was NOT that. It was someone pointing out that a neck looked a bit off. They complimented the art and just made a passing remark about the neck looking off. And they got shit on for it.
Although, i wouldn't judge the artist on just one case, maybe they had a bad day, or maybe they spent hours trying to fix that damned neck and then gave up, for example, who knows :)
When people do that repeatedly, i just add their page to "do i want to watch them" folder in my browser favorites, and reconsider from time to time
I dunno, I just sorta see it as the person was trying to help the artist out and they got mad? But you're right they coulda just been in a mood.
I also sorta know how it goes when you spend time on something and you're zoomed in or just never really look at the piece as a whole and then you post it and other people see something that's super obviously wrong and you don't want it to be true because you loved it..... Then look back later like " whoa joints don't bend that way" or something.
I feel like this is gonna end up being the case in this situation.
I'm not gonna lie, I kept refreshing this thing to see if anyone was gonna have the guts to point out the weird thing in the image and when someone did they were very chill about it.
And when artists ask something like "name a thing you don't like in my art/thing you think i need to work on more" it's the worst xD I do try to reply in those cases though.
But I totally can't be mad because I rarely am brave enough to point out any mistakes (the exception being markings on my own characters if it's a commission).
Art is critiqued everywhere it is posted; galleries, museums, fairs, websites.
It's something that happens with art no matter the form it comes in.
You can't yell at someone for being a critic just because you didn't ask for it.
It comes with the territory. Don't like it...delete it and move on.
Only time I have ever had issues with art criticism is when it was one of the mindless white knights of a tracer that didn't like me and he came to tell me that my nose I drew was fucked up.
Only because of the tracer not liking me.
IMO getting angry at the person that gave you the critique makes you seem like you don't wanna improve or just think you're such a hot shit you don't need to improve. I dunno, just makes you come off as ignorant????
I used to draw no-necks.
Thanks to criticism...
People want my artwork.
"Your art has no necks."
I died a little inside.
But now...
Everyone has necks.
It went from head to legs with no changes in shape or form lol
I would have loved to have been told that
