It was an old refurbished monitor I got on what basically was a garage sale. Whatever monetary value I put in it has already long been recouped.

Mine died as well recently. It was a throwaway from work, though, when they replaced their CRT monitors with LCD ones.
One thing CRT monitors really do well is die, though. None of this namby-pamby "stop working" crap, with a CRT monitor you'll get the picture collapse into a spot, or a really bright circular blob which sleets you with soft X-rays, or the EHT actually burns out and fills the room with that wonderful molten plastic smell.

But they really knock the spots off an LCD in terms of colour reproduction. Plus it's fun to have a particle accelerator on your desk.

Agreed. O good lord, the smell!

At least with these you know without a doubt when its time to replace it.

Most is unfortunate. Are you going to be okay financially getting a new one?

no problems there... I have enough to spare if its just a monitor that I'll have to buy.
