then it'd be metafictional incest, and since tabrix is a metafictional creature it'd common-denominator itself down to regular incest

A sentient brain in a cube of crystal what was a sentient security device used to weed out potential thieves. The shop was closed and the brain was found in a bargain bin. The brain is partially a psychic parasite, gaining partial memories as well as sensory input from those that are near it. It tells all sorts of odd little "a passing moment in the life" stories, and in turn Tabrix's prolonged closeness allows it to experience the sensations of her being alive - moving breathing, talking, sweating, minor aches and pains.

So how about something like the epitoky in Marine Polychaete worms, like Eunice sp? (Bobbit Worm)
Basically these big predatorial worms, when breeding season is coming, they add another third to half to their body as a breeding organism known as an epitoke. The Epitoke when severed/released from the main worm, is its own independently semi-functional organism that leaves the main worm behind, and goes out and has fatal sex with other epitokes. (generally they just get together then explode)

While the main part of the worm, with the largest brain, and big nasty jaws stays safe in its burrow snatching at hapless fish that pass by.

And the thing is, the Epitoke may grow to be Male one season, or Female the next season. It is an interesting strategy.

Also alternatively, something like Mayflies. Lives for 4 days at best, , has sex and dies.
Having sex outside of species completely defeats the purpose of having sex, so it is kind of like the ultimate death for an individual mayfly.

Not much of a date, but could be an effective serial lay affair. 7 mayflys in a week or what have you. That all might be generally the same.
