Confrontation
As my breath hitched within my throat I turned back to the creature following me. It had a body of a human and of a bat, what... what is that monster?!? I thought to myself as I ran as fast as I could. Tears stung my eyes. My lungs burned as if hell it's self had opened up within them. My legs ached from how long I've been running. Oh gods please don't let me die!! I thought to myself as I turned back to where I was heading. My surroundings, sadly for me, was a wide open plains. Behind me was the forest that had hosted that thing's home. The grass bent at my steps, the soft crunch was barely audible in my ears as all I could hear was my own heart beating like a jack rabbit in the middle of a chase. Soon, I reached the river, and jumped inside, praying the creature would leave me alone. To my despair, and utter horror, the monster followed me inside the water, and swam after me, with it's large wings propelling it faster than me and soon, I was wrapped in it's membrane. Dragged into the water as I was just so, so close to the other side. I closed my eyes and awaited the inevitable. I could feel it's pelt, now soaked in the water, cling to it's exposed muscles and onto my skin, hair, and clothes. I could even hear the off beat outside of my own heart beat, and the howl of the wind and the river dragging us down it's current. I felt it's wings envelop around me tighter and tighter until I thought I was going to be crushed. I could feel, and smell it's breath, hot, sticky, an the scent... it smelled rotten, yet sweet as if it was a rotting corpse, laying on a pile of ripe fruits. I let out a whimper, and gotten a nose full of water. I coughed heavily, but it only made it worse, and soon I was choking on half of my lungs full of water. As I thought I was going to die the constriction loosened and felt something tug on my shirt, and soon felt the cold, wet mud against my back as I violently hacked up water.
When I opened my eyes I stared up at the beast, it's shimmering blue eyes contrasted with it's almost crimson coat. My eyes widened as I sat up immediately and scooted back from it, but it did not pounce, nor attack. It just sat there, or, crouched would be the better term. Staring at me, occasionally it'd chirp or making squawks at me. I kept coughing until I knew my body was clear of the river water. "y-you..... s-s-saved me" I croaked out, my voice sounding as shaken as I felt. The creature just stared at me, with a quizzical look on it's eyes. I'm guessing it's female because of her chest being, for without a better term, very voluptuous and soft, even with her pelt clinging to her like a wet dog. I turned back to the water, then finally realized, this area doesn't look anything like the area we were. How long were we in that water?? It felt only for a few moments. But the tall grass of the Savannah was lower, greener, and in general more alive. Off in the distance I could see a small village, though it's guarded off by a makeshift wall, along with... golems? I turned back to the beast who had chased me down and nearly drowned me in the river. "u-u-uhm..." I tried to think of the right words, but just stared at her instead. The creature stared back.
Then, she stood back up, her ears shifting around until they both faced the right, and her face scrunched up into what I'm guessing was rage as she gotten onto all 4's, which, since she didn't have arms, meant she crouched down until her wings touched the ground completely, in replacement for arms. and she bolted into the grass, scaring off some birds in the process. I could still follow her, thanks to her deep red coat. Soon there was a squawk and growling, and soon she, and another beast rolled out. Both growling at each other, this beast looked like a giant squirrel, but, he also looked like an infected. Half his muzzle was missing, one eye was also missing, the other was milky white. His tail was, some how still bushy except the tip where it was just bone. One of his arms was half flesh, half bone. The two circled each other, before both of them stood up, and hugged? The bat like female creature let out a purr and squeak, the infected squirrel creature didn't make a sound, except, I, think it made a hollow hiss? or maybe that's the river behind me. I can't tell. But all I know was the two were no longer in death mode. I moved my hair out of my face as I just stared at the two, lungs on fire, limbs in agony, and now soaking like a dog in the rain.
The female finally realized I was still here and she squeaked, causing the infected to look back at me. I could feel the blood drain in my face as we both locked eye contact. Then he slowly, moved closer to me. I let out a squeak in terror and backed up, my palm squishing up to my wrist in mud. I shuttered at the squelching feeling of it burying my hand in it's contents. I tried to stand to get back, but my legs disagreed and I was barely capable of getting to my knees. The infected squirrel creature just stared, then turned to the female bat and they both shrugged and started stepping back. Both of them looked curious at me. Was it because I'm an elf? Or because I have green hair? They, don't seem to have malicious intent for me, so, why did the female chase me? Why did the squirrel beast startled the female bat to cause her to become more primal and offensive?? I thought as I glanced between the two, just noticing I was starting to mess with my now soaked, ruined braid. The two just watched me. "c-can..... you speak?" I asked them, the two just stared, then the squirrel nodded slowly. He opened his mouth, but all that escaped was that familiar hollow sound. "guess not" I muttered under my breath, then looked to the female bat. She just looked at me, a childish curiosity in her eyes as she sniffed the air. I watched her for a moment, before she dove back into the grass once again, and soon, there was a shreak of a rabbit, and the bat rushing over with it in her maw. She slowly stepped over on all 4's again, and dropped the dead rabbit at my feet. I just stared at it in horror. The two stared at each other then plopped down on the ground infront of me. Guess they wanted to show peace? but, a rabbit?!?
(just wanted to do this, This protagonist is my Elf oc Ilana. If you go to my tumblr, you'll see lots of pics of her, she's a coward, but she's open hearted to others. But she's never seen an anthropomorphic bat and squirrel before, so, yeah, she's terrified)
