Drinking Buddies
Hope sat in an old wooden chair, glancing at the other patrons of the bar in Nemract. She smiled to herself as she glanced to the Nemract whiskey in her hand, it was about 1/4th's gone from the drink, and in her, somewhat causing her vision to be a bit hazy, but she was still there, mostly. She grinned as she watched the usual hooker try to woo a drunken pirate, and stealing small things from him as she did her job. Something, even Hope could praise for. She sighed heavily as she took another gulp of her drink, tomorrow she'd be up early, and find the seller of that book. Granted, Aaron could've gotten anyone else in the world to try to swade this seller into giving it up, but he chose her since she needed time away from the mage Island, around other people, around people more her style. Well, as she thought anyway.
She chuckled to herself as she watched the patrons in the bar, some starting fights, others down right sucking face in front of everyone, others getting a bit too handsy and getting slapped. She giggled to herself at that last part, each time she heard that far too familiar ring of a palm smashing into a bumbling, perverted drunk, sent a flutter of joy through her heart. She glanced up to see, surprisingly, that brunette guy, what's his name? Oh! Nicholas! walk into the bar, and order a drink. But when he sat down at a table, he just stared at the alcohol. The somber look on his face immediately downed her mood. She looked away and glanced out the window, watching the mess of pirates, the common folk, and the few drunks who were exiting the bars go on without giving a single thought about the woman who watched them. She smiled to herself as she relaxed again. She glanced at one woman who was holding a baby in her arms, for a moment, she thought that the woman was Ilana, but at a better glance, she noticed it was just a Half elf with blond hair, and a crying baby, instead of her dear friend. She sighed to herself, until she felt someone place their hand on her shoulder causing her to jump as she turned, and was about to slap them, when she realized it was Nicholas. The look in his eyes told her that he needed to talk to someone.
She nodded o him and he sat down in the seat across from her, and set his glass down on the table "Hope... I-I was given a choice.. a heavy one but..." he let out a groan in annoyance as he started to ruffle his hair, guess this choice was gnawing on him. She gave him a sympathetic smile" but you aren't sure of what to choose?, or if it's the right one?" she asked and he nodded. "y-yeah... I'm leaning towards.... what Aaron told me, but... but what if I forget about her? A-About Marry..." he groaned as h rested his head on the table in defeat. Hope looked to him curiously* Marry? wait, isn't that the woman that yknow.. built you? or... whatever? "he nodded again as he glanced up at hope" S-She... saved my life from... what I CAN remember... I don't know the details but, I remember vaguely, we were in a fight of some sort, and.... I remember something... hitting me in the side of the head, I-I don't know what, and.... augh!! It's too foggy!" He snapped and shook his head. She bit the inside of her cheek as she could feel the blood drain from her cheeks some from his sudden outburst "hey, no need to hurt yourself, do you remember anything after that?"she asked softly as she placed a hand on his for reassurance. He nodded as he stared at her hand "I.... I remember... waking up, and she was gone... I was near Ternaves, my home village from when I was a child, my bow resting beside me, still in my hand, and my arrows spilled out all around me, as if someone threw them out, half of them were snapped in half, and, I went back to Ternaves, to find out the village had been dealing with some bandits and so I just... brushed it off as I was attacked by a bandit during the fight and Marry had become M.I.A."
His eyes became dewey with tears, so Hope leaned forwards and wiped his tears. "I understand" She whispered to him calmly as she gav him a reassuring smile. "I got off lucky with remembering my past, even if, it's full of hell and nightmares that seemed to never end." She laughed bitter sweetly as she closed her eyes, trying to ignore the memories.
