All one has to do is read the various 'Declarations of Causes' to understand that secession from the Federal Union to form the Confederate States of America by South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Virginia, Arkansas, Tennessee, North Carolina, Missouri and Kentucky was based almost entirely on preserving the institution of slavery. Anyone that claims otherwise is being willfully ignorant.
