Yeah. I'm super competitive. Yeah.... I don't win contests, but this is bullshit.

I drew my Leeds/Jersey Devil as an entry. Go through 15 pages and see how many you think would be in the running against me.

So yeah... I spent over a week working on my Leeds devil, someone shits out a bird in ms paint or a paintchat, and they get 1st place. Why not? I mean hell, I should have drawn a piece of shit with a smiley face and I probably would have won, fuck trying to actually do research on what mythological gods/demons/creatures are in Shin Megami Tensei's history of games! Who does that, MIR DOES THAT. I spent 3 days just flipping through my shin megami books and searching the internet, checking wikis, to make sure I wasn't drawing something that had already been in one of their games (such as Pandora, or Joan of Arc).
Doll thing. Yep. Okay. I'm just going to say #3 put in the most effort.
Blair witch is totally original - why the fuck not?
BTW, my creature was level 13 (low) and also had just basic/decent spells and attacks and skills... why??? Because I don't want to creature a giant megahorribleubermonsterbosscreature. I want a goddamn thing that runs around in the newbie areas! I WANT TO SEE IT! I DONT HAVE FUCKING TIME TO PLAY!!!!!!!!!!! T_T
So yeah. Yet again, I lose another contest and feel like I was poked in the eyes with a wet noodle. Seriously, it's one thing to lose - I lose quite often - but to lose like that? That's like running a marathon and you lose to the person without legs, rolling across duct taped to a skateboard.
Fuck. Anyway =3 Enjoy my sore loser crying QQ whiney bitchy ness. I felt it would be most appreciated here. Flame me and you die. =D

I think you mis-read me. You did a LOT better. The third, the witch, was a decent thing, but the whole Blair Witch thing is yesterday's news, it was a movie made by a couple punks in the woods standing in corners and dropping cameras and hiring kids to do things. That sounds vaguely dirty.
But the Jersey Devil is like Bloody Mary, like the ghost who lost her baby, like Dracula, the wolfman, its a timeless scary tale and got shoved to the wayside by a duck trying to pretend to be Farfetched from Poke'mon.

I really like the SMT games as well, by the way. A couple of my favorites include Digital Devil Saga (parts 1 and 2), and Persona 3. :)
Have you beaten all of those games as well?
I haven't finished about 98% of my games. Those I have finished, I totally cried at the end. >_<()

They weren't gonna let quality of the drawing sway their decision. If you were counting on that then you were, unfortunately, screwed from the beginning.
Still thought yours was better though....
Since I'm here in Jersey and if I was ever wandering around the woods like an idiot and stumbled across that duck, only to find out it was the Jersey Devil, I would first react by going "Awww look at the little ducky he's got a hat on who puts a hat on a duck that's like putting a tutu on a dog" which would be followed by "AW FUCK IT'S EVIL" when I found out what it really was, which is really only the cheap jump-out-from-around-a-corner-and-go-BOO kind of scary. But with YOURS if I were wandering around the woods and saw that off in the distance I'd have pissed my pants from twenty feet away and would be screaming several octaves too high before it actually got to me, which is the type of scare I think that the Jersey Devil should have.
In short, yours is awesome and should have won D:

Overall, i picked them based on originality, uniqueness, and how realistic they would be in the Megaten world. A lot of entries were totally awesome when it came to the demon's appearance, but lacked originality in the skills department, or they were too overpowered. The winners I picked were ones I could actually envision in the game."
Speaking as one of artistic caliber close to yours who has participated in contests of all kinds, this kind of thing happens almost all the time. You WILL go up against people you consider to be inferior, apart from the odds of a judging environment reliant on one or more things.
And speaking as one with a very poor contest track record, I can only say: Hey, this shit's the norm. Welcome to the battlefield.
Wish you good luck in other contests...if you'll be entering in some any time soon.

To return to the marathon metaphor, the judges weren't keeping track of your place in the running; they were examining your posture, pacing technique, and maybe your choice of shoe.

When it comes down to it, no one is immune to personal preference. However whether you let it influence your judging abilities or not is a different story. And then there are those few people out there who believe that the 'little people' deserve to win, too.
