Professor Summer's NFL Picks Week 6
Professor Summer, your favorite NFL handicapper is back and off to a strong start. So far this year I'm a respectable 10-5. Still no calls from any sports publications, or even blogs. This week presents a new challenge, so let's see what our glasses and labcoat (and nothing else) wearing skunk can do.

Now, if this were Las Vegas or some other regionality where gambling on sports were legal, the way it would work is simple. Pick three winners and lump them together in what's known as a parlay. If ALL THREE are correct, you're a winner, and you receive 5 times what you wagered. However, this is NOT Las Vegas, so these picks are for entertainment purposes only.
PICK 1 - Detroit Lions (+4) defeat New Orleans Saints
~Detroit has stumbled lately and it's causing the bookmakers to jump off the bandwagon. Meanwhile the Saints are a different team from week to week. I see the Lions being competitive enough to make the playoffs again this year, and this is a game they'll need to win to do it. Soooo, I like the Lions winning straight up, the +4 protects me from a last minute heartbreak
Wrong
PICK 2 - Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-1.5) defeat Arizona Cardinals
~Arizona is worse than people realize, thanks to teams like San Fransisco and Cleveland and Indy losing in louder ways. But! This team has played both the 49ers and Colts and looked NO BETTER than either of them. Tampa is a team that will be 7-9 or 8-8 and sort of hanging around the outskirts of the NFC playoff picture, and that will be because they are able to knock over soup cans like this opponent.
Wrong
PICK 3 - Oaklandish Raiders (-3) defeat Los Angelesish Chargers
~Conventional wisdom is to be wary of in-division rivalries, as the underdog can ride the emotion to produce an unexpected result. I'm ignoring that because the Raiders are expected to regain Derek Carr, and the fact that Oakland's record is below expectations means that they will go all out to get the win, and to repair some of the psychological damage done by earlier losses.
Wrong
Ugh, an 0-3 week, and Professor Summer returns toward the median. Tough week.
Season record so far, 10 correct, 8 incorrect.
