Whats your most troubled area to draw?
Does anyone have an area, or something, that they find soooooooo hard to draw or get right? Necks and shoulders are always hard for me. More so on guys then girls.. but maaaan. Sometimes i'm working for hours on the neck. haha At the moment though.. eyes have been hard for me. I never know what shape i like.. and my eye shapes change with each picture. haha i type this now cause im working on a commission and i cant get the eyes looking right.
When you are having trouble.. what are some of the things you do to get through it? Though eyes are hard to hide, i use hair to hide my neck flaws. I used to always put hands behind their backs cause i hated hands! Still do. I guess looking at refs would be the most expected thing to do. Does anyone do anything else? Keep trying till you get it right? ect?

FA+

To get through it I find photos and doujins that have detailed pics of what I'm trying to draw (most recently a vagina) and try to duplicate it. Then I practice doing it on my own with no reference until I get it to where I want it. Unfortunately, there's almost no way to hide the genitalia in the pics where it's being drawn (well duh it's meant to be seen!) so I HAVE to get it right. On the other hand this forces me to practice and get better.
lol scuse my language
I mean you can start out with a canine, then erase the ears, put bunny ears in it's place and shorten the muzzle and "presto", you have a rabbit. It would seem like something doesn't look right.
However, most anime style artwork minimizes this since it follows its own rules on how to draw the face/head.
Another, even bigger, issue for me is hair. I personally try to avoid drawing the hair in calculated clumps. I try to incorporate more individual strands to try and give the hair a slightly more natural look. But it sometimes proves difficult to find the proper balance.
Like anything else, the best is to find a picture that has the result you like. Then break it down in your mind how that artist created it then try to recreate yourself.
Also, feet are as hard to draw.
That's most of my problem areas. xD
Tends to put shoes on then to cover them feets up ^^;
everything else i'm pretty ok with
And no I don't mean the genitals. I mean the way the legs and the body and the butt come together.
Thankfully The best way I have to found to remedy this deficiency in other areas is to study them, so I have an artistic excuse to look at a lots of butts and crotches.
My main area of trouble use to be hair. I'm getting better, but drawing hair is soooo hard. >_< It just tend to look flat and pasted on instead of attached to the head.
Hands, of course, although it's getting better.
The main thing I'm having trouble with is proportions, especially when you toss in perspective. I know it's a basic thing, but when I try something such as kneeling from behind, the legs tend to look short and weird. >_<
Also, manly shapes. But only the skinny to normal types. The more muscular the easier. :X
I like the sound of that x3
as for how I deal with it now...well, whenever things aren't going the way I want in the initial sketch or I just can't figure out how I want to go about starting, I'll usually end up pulling up some sort of a reference and/or go back to using basic shapes.
Definitely muzzles.
I hates them precious.
Or just draw hair in the way.
One character of mine doesn't have hands or feet just the ends of her long arms and legs glow. She uses some kind of levitation to move about and her "hands" just levitate what she needs to grab. One could call that cheating but her case was by design.
I think mostly my temper is my biggest problem. I can see a great image in my head, but I've never been able to put what I see in my head on paper, not even close, so I get very frustrated and give up. Gotta get over that, but I don't know how at the moment. I've mostly been blaming senior year art classes, when what I wanted to draw and what I had to draw were completely opposite things.
Those are the two things I have most trouble with.
