Social sites
Back in 2014, I took a plunge into a babyfur social site, I felt so excited at the time since I never been in any community before, let alone a babyfur one.
I joined one, I joined two. It was exciting times. That didn't last very long though...
After the initial excitement died down, I realized that, well, social sites aren't really that exciting. Like... There isn't exactly much to do.
It's hard to hold conversations in social sites, I think people don't exactly know what to do in them.
They'd post pictures, status of their day, people would press the Like button, maybe reply with short acknowledgement, make small talk, conversations were far and short. So on quiet days, it's really quiet. Some might say it's almost boring.
But when things happen, when the drama starts, it gets tense. People have something to say, then other people would have something else to say. And it's a game of who can shout the loudest, and who can last the longest shouting. Eventually people get tired or bored of shouting, and the shouting stops, for now. Until something happens again. A never-ending cycle. It's scary.
I thought social sites are a place to discover people, make friends and have conversations.
But well, to me, social sites feels like a place where people go to make small talk and argue.
I was an admin for one of the sites for a while. I did small things: handle tickets, post announcements, maintain social order (or try at least)
What I found out was, well, people are bored lol They want something to do, a topic to talk about, something to get a conversation started.
So I made some small activities, games, site interactions, that sorta thing. People seemed to like it, they came back to check for new stuff, there was stuff to do.
It felt like running a daycare, planning activities and keeping the kiddos happy, settling disputes about who said the mean things and whose finger Charlie bit #ancientmemes
It was fun, I was more than happy to do it, but well, it got really tiring. People wanted more, and I couldn't do more, I was all out of ideas, and Charlie bit someone else's finger for the forth time this week.
Nowadays, there are like hundreds of channels for babyfurs to hang out, to talk and make friends, like Telegram/Discord chat rooms
So I don't think we need a social site.
I think we need an activity site. Like a Neopets clone or something, somewhere for people to do stuff, interact, collaborate, compete, a common topic or theme or whatever the flavor of the week is.
It's certainly better than fighting for no reason lol
