Slowly but surely.

The issue that strikes me most is the lineart. It's too sharp, jagged, kind of messy, in some tight spots the color fill is missing. If you're not a pixel artist, and you're not using layers for artworks with lineart - better start using it. Don't leave any tiny details unfinished like that; people WILL notice.

Also use more contrast in shading! The characters will look less flat and more interesting.

Another thing - backgrounds. Feel free to use stock photos for personal art, but artists who MAKE their own backgrounds are higher appreciated. The more boundaries you break, the better for yourself. I would rather avoid leaving -white- spaces unless the commissioner asks for it.

I'll leave this shameless self plug here, showing the methods I make my art; and it's MUCH quicker than trying to draw a line for the 12415th time and still not be happy with it. I bet programs other than Photoshop do indeed have similar functions.

Agreed, and because I pencil to start, it really does get messy, and I am rectifying that! I’m discovery new methods to eliminate jagged lines and tight spots.

Several things,

Watch other furs - some furs might watch you back.

Themed Art - When a yearly event such as X-mas or Halloween comes round, do some themed art pieces.

Try some YCH's - People can be interested in something that can include their fursona's.

Practice - Practice as much as possible and do comparrisons year on year.

NSFW - Have NSFW Art....XD....it might work.

I often watch those who comment! I get involved with YCH, do work for others.

Always improving...But I have yet to offer YCHs :O

That's a good idea! It's a great way to funnel interest, especially if you have an interesting character :)
