(Just discard this, mostly posting here to vent for myself. and so people on my FB don't start asking questions and the friends i have there and discord don't start messaging me)
{I will mostly use this journal to just rant stuff out-loud to myself. I will keep comments open for if people want to actually have an intelligent conversation. Anything that doesn't contribute to a conversation or topic will be removed.}

So a conversation came up in a server I am in. It was mostly brought up from someone mentioning there was people out there that don't like certain species. A lot of people in the server jumped on the side of the person who didn't like that they where talking bad about the species. Saying stuff like people get butt hurt over simple design rules, if they don't get what they want they try and make "rip-off" species of the original, and stuff like 'oh they are just made because its a popular species and they think they will instantly be popular if they have one then get upset when they don't.
being in this fandom longer then pretty much all those people in that server i stepped in to correct this.
Now given the fact if you are new to the fandom you might fall into this category, not saying all do but the majority tend to.
So I stated that that is not always the reason someone hates a species. I stated there are times when someone feels that if they follow a popular species they will get ostracized and bullied because they want to be "popular" when they might just like the species and want one. (if you are new to the fandom this kind of stuff can defiantly put you down and i can understand how it could lead someone to not wanting to have that species or liking them)
I also stated that there are people out there that are trying to find there place in the fandom and want to make an impact on the community, and a popular species might make them feel like they are following a crowd when that not what they want to do.

This lead to a new topic that kinda fell in the same line but the conversation was defiantly veering from the original start.
So This "Find there place" topic brought up stuff like
"oh if you just be a good person and be helpful and kind you will make an impact." Which i do agree with, but pointed out that with those new to the fandom or trying to find there place they can help out there friends and make a small impact, but they still feel like a nobody in the fandom.
someone stated that the people wanting to make an impact make a character and then instantly expect to be popular without contributing anything.
To which i corrected.
there might be some who are extremely new that can think like that. But the majority that I have come across that want to make an "impact" know they have to work at it, and they do contribute art, music and other creative skills to the fandom.
At this point the conversation shifted again because a few people just started talking about something off topic in the middle of the debate then tried to put input on it like they where there the whole time.
So the conversation kinda lead back to a comment i made at the beginning of the conversation. And that was "if you see two people just talking about a species they don't like there is no need for you to jump in there and escalate things just because you don't like what they are saying."
So as the conversation turns that way one of the people in the server stated that if they know they are right and could 'win' a "debate" they will "jump in" and say something.
I stated that they should pick and choose there battles. Because if there is no actual debate or argument there is no need to make one.
The proceeded to say they don't start "debates" they end them
To which i said If you are going into "debates" thinking you could win because you know some facts that they got wrong and just "complain" per say till the other party is done dealing with you. Thats not much of a debate at that point
They proceeded to pretty much say if they had "facts" and "evidence" that could prove the other party wrong they would use them, and if the other party didn't listen to them then thats there own fault.
To which i retorted
If they are just going into conversations because they think they have some facts that will prove the other party wrong then its just proving the other party right because you are looking like a dick and it represents badly on the species community.
My point being (for the conversation) "if you see two people just having a conversation about something you don't agree with, just because you have facts that you think will prove them wrong dosn't mean you should instantly jump in there and start anything."
At this point to make themselves seem like they didn't do anything wrong they said that i seemed to be hung up on them jumping into conversations
I told them that it was there wording the first few times they stated this that i was going on with this about. and then provided the screenshots to them from the easy scrolling up of the conversation to prove that i have been stating that i was talking about there wording.
At this point people started to jump in because they though we where arguing and i had to proceed to explain to them how a debate worked. to which the server decided to die and we where told by the admins, who i want to point out where watching this whole thing as it went on, that if we where to continue the "debate" it would have to be in DM's. To which the other person pretty much backed down because they where Butt hurt over what I said.
But first off it was a relative topic to the group and we where in the right channel to have debates and talks, so why after it had pretty much been done with do the admins tell us to now go to the DM's. And this isn't the first time i have had issues with this particular server. (But those are for other rants)

Second the main point started from me saying you had to pick and choose your battles. I am all to aware of what i post and where i post it. I know how to play this game. so if anyone where to try and use this card on myself they will be wrong. There is a reason I am posting this on FA and not FB)

you have the right of it for debates tho i do agree.
and yes, for some reason people having debates in public if it last a fair while always end up as an 'argument' and some mods will perceive it as such which given the nature of debating is "to argue a point with someone that has a different view."
Now there is nothing wrong with that, in all honesty I feel there should be more people who are outspoken, and I myself am one of them. But most people now a days just shy away from any kind of discussion and back down at the first authority that comes into play if you are on public servers. And it's merely the simple fact that no one knows what a debate or discussion is anymore. Everything is instantly assumed to be an argument now a days, even if two people are agreeing on stuff.
Debates and discussions are not arguing, they are both logical discussions that either have facts or opinions that others might not see the same and the two parties merely talk with each other about them. Debates being more of a "try to swing them to see your side, but also be open to see theirs."
And I have had problems with this particular server when it comes to me talking about things and trying to have logical discussions or pointing out tips that could help in the long run for the server. And also happen to point out things that I get yelled at for doing but then someone like an hour latter dose them same thing and I point them out about it and get accused of mini-modding.
I have been in the server for about 3 years now and never once had I asked for "power" in any way. And they added people to there moderators list, shearly out of favoritism recently. Now I have no issue with the mods and some of them did earn that spot, but its the mere fact that last AC they met up with some people and the next day they became mods. That is bad admining if you ask me. And this isn't me being butt hurt over not being a mod, its the mere fact I have watched favoritism go on to much in that group and when someone who even remotely questions there action when they catch something incorrect gets accused of mini-modding.
Yes of coarse I am going to step up and say something. And they hate it because they are use to having the title of "Big Bad Admin" and when they come one people back down because they are afraid of getting kicked or ban from the group. That is no way to run a server. I have so many people from that server come talk to me and rant because they are afraid if they state there opinion in the server they will get band. That is wrong. They are coming to me because they are merely afraid to have an opinion at this point because of what I stated earlier in this post, "People don't know what a discussion and debate are." Anything that seems like it challenges the admins there doesn't go over well with them, even if it is merely suggestions.
I would leave the group but I made it my duty at this point to be the one to stand up for those to afraid to do so. And if I get band then I did with a purpose and I hopefully set an example for the others. No one should be afraid to have an opinion.
