Why Many Abandon The Furry Fandom
For truth, justice, and booty.
The furry fandom is not tolerant nor is it accepting. Hard truth.
A friend of mine,
Naskatan made this video, its worth the listen.
Good.

I dunno if you're naive or willfully disingenuous but I'm gonna say both.
I've already exhaustively explained my reasoning in my antifa pic. Have a browse. If you care enough,
I'm socially liberal and really only economically conservative. I care a lot about individual freedom, and it seems like these days not many people care much about it as they only seem to think of people as groups. Their race, sex, orientation, nationality. None of that really matters to me. It's your actions that do.

Unlike others I do talk to right-wingers. My roommate is probably more right-wing than you though we actually find we agree on a lot. Especially when it comes to talking shit about liberals and Hillary Clinton and Dubya.
One of them got me into the idea of Agorism, which reminds me of the concepts of Dual Power and Mutual Aid.
Way to prove a point.
The only tolerance that can and should be asked for, is the tolerance of differing opinions. Somehow people nowadays get the idea that just because people have an opinion or idea that they personally don't like, that they need to attack them for having the idea instead of the idea itself, should they be that opposed to it. It's easier to go after specific people and bully them off the stage, and when you have people in charge who clearly lean so far to one side that they can't even call out both sides of the whatever current dispute as bad in their own ways.
Politics and Drama are going to take place in every community, there will always be infighting and disputes, the problem with the Furry Community is that they have a tendency to be underhanded and unfair in the "furry court," As it were. And it's for those reasons why the arguments can't stop. In addition, you'll still have people that flat out refuse to learn from history, and even if an idea is logically beaten to the ground to the point where it practically READS as trouble, they'll still rally behind it.
So yeah, this all comes down to the truth that the Furry Community simply isn't as tolerant as they let on because people on both sides will still treat the other side as sub-human and justify all manner of acts that ultimately make them and their cause look worse. I can't say this will cause me to leave the Furry Community, as I truly don't invest myself into any large-scale community, and do everything for my own satisfaction, this can cause a lot of people to leave. The only issue with that is the same degenerates will consider every leaver a 'Victory.' It's gotten to the point where shooting your entire community in the foot is the best way to make a point, a point that may or may not be valid because instead of subjecting it to fair scrutiny, people choose to force the point down our collective throats.
I wouldnt suggest anyone leave the fandom if they wish to see it improve. People need to stick around and try and make it better.
My non-tolerance would be with me even if I wasn't a furry, maybe even worse than non-tolerance if I weren't a furry, haha

Bringing in religion and politics is just asking for trouble... let alone arguing it, because no one is going change someone else's mind. So it's just pointless bickering for the sake of bickering.
It gets old after a few weeks, let alone 20 or so years.
That being said, here are my thoughts on the whole thing. In terms of Nazis, I won't punch one, mainly because it's too much energy to punch someone, but I wish that they'd come to learn to believe that everyone is equal and stop being Nazis and go around to consider every race equal and seek making things right with everyone. Though sadly, some people will just remain hateful. And while I understand why people don't want Nazi's to grow, I'd just talk to the people they're trying to recruit and warn them and let them know that they don't have to join the group to feel validated as an individual. I don't know too much about Antifa, still, and at this point I don't bother to care much anymore. As for BLM, I still follow the principle that black lives do matter and that I wish the extremists that gave the group such a bad name would notice the shit they do and stop it and if they refuse to, then they should leave the group, not the people who want to make the statement it originally was created for. I believe in "The best way to defeat an enemy is by making him your friend", but if it gets pushed too far, I'm not afraid of the principle of "Momma said knock you out". Basically, I just hope the person learns to be a good person, and I'll either be cool with them or just be chill and keep my distance, until they put their hands on me. After that, it's fair game and spoiler alert: you'll be needing a Wal-Mart bag to pick up your teeth from the ground.
But in terms of drama, here is also my take on it: I just ignore/mute/block and keep it moving. Unless someone I care about gets hurt and/or someone puts their hands on me, I'm just gonna keep that shit off of my feed. However, I also believe that for anyone that's a hateful person, takes pride in it and refuses to learn, I am heartbroken and I feel absolutely sorry for you. I hate hate. I don't get it. it's too much effort to be hateful and the main reason why is not only because they're full of hate, but it can affect the people I love. For people like child molesters, terrorists (or lone wolfs, mass murderers, w/e people wanna call them now), active racists and crooked people, I understand and I have mixed feelings of broken heart in that they could have been a better person, and lack of sympathy in hoping they are buried and quickly forgotten about with no one to miss them.
So ultimately, what do I do in terms of stuff like drama? I just ignore it. I like to be positive, so I avoid talking about the things I hate and start talking about the things I love and enjoy. That way, people can look at the stuff they love and not at the things they hate. The things they hate will get lack of attention and die off, and people are much happier in the world. Appreciate the people you love and enjoy being around. Unless you call me out of my name or go out of your way to insult or test my waters, I won't have an issue with you.
Think of it like back in the days of gaming when we had online passes, where you had to pay a small fee just to play online, that could have been on top of paying for online itself if you had Xbox Live at the time. We stopped fucking with that and supported games that didn't have it. While it deals with more monetary value, the concept is very similar. The games nowadays are still in a somewhat bind, but imagine if everyone didn't let online passes out and it was still going. Then you'd have to pay for online, pay for the game and then pay for an online pass just to play a game you might not have liked.
That's my take on the matter.
P.S. Love ya a bunchies, Zacky. A friend I'm glad to have.
Individuality is what made the fandom, to me anyway, on a personal level more interesting and if we didn't agree with each other we just continued with life as normal to an extent. I've seen people leave for a multitude of reasons, freedom of thought just seems to be added to the list now.
I've never heard of any fandom that actually has this perfect "big happy family" thing going for them and since he doesn't really give any examples and simply states that there are, it makes me skeptical and again makes me think of the individual having a naive view of things.
As for the whole "If you are not with us, you are against us" groups labeling people, they have a very narrow world view if not a very toxic one at that. I will not involve myself with any one person wanting to push these ideologies as I find them inherently flawed and often hypocritical. I personally try to ignore rumors and reputations, as hard as that may be. I'd rather make my own judgments about a person, and not blindly follow what I've been told about them.
I don't know what side you fall on in all this or what your views are on the whole notice besides the hard truth, but you seem like you got your head on right as far as I can tell owo-b
PS: I don't know who started the whole "We are the most accepting community out there" rumor nor who keeps perpetuating it, but as with any fandom there are the good and there are the bad. And in my personal experience, I've had more of the good then the bad, so I guess I can call myself lucky in this case.
I think the fandom as a whole keeps trying to present itself as something it just isnt. I dont think we can blame specific individuals for this.
I genuinely have heard so many conflicting stories about the whole percentage of the community is about porn deal. Like I know many of the mainstream interviews with furries spin that whole "only a small minority of the fandom is about porn" and I've never seen clear proof one way or another to be honest. Like on FA I surround myself with porn, so it is the majority of what I see. But if that is just me or the fandom in general I can't tell. However, personally I think it isn't a black and white issue, but more of a gray area, a healthy mix of porn stuff and non porn stuff xD
You might very well be right about that, I do see that view with that in mind. I do think the fandom is presenting itself as something it isn't for sure. Hmm... You are right, it would be impossible to blame the individuals for the whole presentation as it is. I just think it is important to keep in mind that any fandom consists of individuals, so there will always be a mixed bag no matter what presentation the fandom promotes. Or so I think.
Sorry, I didn't mean to make this into a super heavy discussion, but I am glad to hear your reply!
Keep being an awesome bun, Zack!
All I can really say is thank you for the civil discussion <3
There are furries in it, that's why
