Should I Block Based On Politics?
I'm kind of curious as to what political groups and opinions people feel strongly about, but at the same time, I also don't want to know. Ignorance is bliss and all that, but feel free to post your political opinions in the comments. I'll not block you based on the comments here.
There's an old saying. There are 2 things you never talk to friends about. Sex or politics. Given how a lot of my friends are sexual deviants, the sex thing comes up occationally, but I avoid the icky details. However, no one seems to have heard that saying when it comes to politics.
See, I get blind sided occationally by surprise political opinions. To give a (simplified) example, there can be a cringe thread on a discord server. People posting politically neutral things, political cartoons, pro-Trump tweets, anti-Trump tweets, and so on. But when I post cringe worthy post about Antifa, one of the mods goes absolutely ballasitic. Even accusing me of getting my "panties in a bunch". So I guess the rule is, cringe is cringe, unless it makes Antifa look bad, in which case a mod will come down on you like a ton of bricks.
As an aside, I'm kind of tempted to take a screenshot of the mods rant and post it to the cringe thread. It would garuntee a ban, but maybe it's worth it?
Politics has become the talking point de-jour, but no kind of discussion happens. It's either you're all on board with a specific opinion, or you're litterally Hitler that needs to be talked down to. With the block button being the "I don't like your opinion" button. I've had people block me or delete my posts for the stupidest of reasons, so why should a devise issue like politics be any different? My question though, is should I adopt the "agree or blocked/banned" principle? On the one hand, it seems to be fairly standard for most, and bad behaviour is bad behaviour regardless of the cause, but on the other hand, since I'm mostly neutral on stuff and like Trump as a media figure (I don't know much about his politics) the people who get upset enough to block me tend to be extremists on the fringe, like the affore mentioned Antifa supporter.
The big thing though is artists. I've said before that I'm kind of mercenary when it comes to talent. I don't care what way a plumber votes, as long as he fixes my pipes. Yet I've also been told to hold artists behaviour against them. Be it letting friends abuse mod powers on a stream, to artists jerking you around, not doing business with them is a win-win situation. Either they will correct that behaviour in the future, or you don't have to deal with the hassle of that stuff and get to spend your money elsewhere. Should this extend to politics? Again, this could be argued as an extension of bad behaviour. It's not so much the politics I object too, but the heavy handed insults for not toing the party line of some foreign political group I have no stake or interest in.
But most importantly, should I get banned from a discord server and likely get blacklisted by a couple of artists I like because of an insecure antifa member? :P
