so just had the first bad experience in FA
8 years ago
ok, its technically second bad experience, but this one was on purpose.
I just had this guy here, who gave a criticism of my latest upload. His first comment was very shallow and wasn't very well defined.
I gently asked for a better reasoning, and dimissed me saying it should be obvious. That wasn't clear.
I asked, again gently for a second time.
His third answer was really, well, douchy.
Well he did kinda explained that the limbs were a little off (understandable) and that it was flat ( cause it WAS flat color) but he again dismissed by saying, i quote:
"it doesn't matter cause i dont care and you will never be a great artist"
then out of curiosity, i checked out this guy's page
he was also an artist and yes, I would say he's pretty good. The problem i noticed was his jounals.
I am certain that all of them WERE some sort of complaint about artists who can't take criticism, saying that he has the right to criticise and such.
Problem was, others, artists or otherwise, WERE calling him out for being too much of a douche on his way of criticism, acting arrogant and such. He started rationalizing: since HE was bullied or such in the past, he will bully others, sort of reasoning. But nobody was falling for it.
I said the word "were" in capital because i found out he just deleted all of his journals, after many comments criticism HIM for acting as such a douche.
So you know, "something something CAN'T TAKE CRITICSM BACK something something " kind of deal at the end

FA+

I remember one person who commented on one of the first drawings that I have ever posted on here. They had some geisha or whatever as their icon.
It was a shit drawing because I was new to art, but it wasn't like a blob or anything; like it wasn't TERRIBLE art. Just not good.
The person basically said I should stop drawing at all, and was just mean-spirited overall.
I found out years later though that they got their ass banned off here.
Funny, how that works. :P
Hang in there, pay attention to your real fans.
Sidenote, things like "great artist" is subjective. It's about being comfortable and secure in your capabilities, while always looking for ways to improve and make yourself even more proud of your abilities. There's no one single artist out there who's work is so good in some faux objective manner to where they're the endgame goal everyone strives towards. Style is important in being a unique and noticeable artist, and refining said style is even more important. While I am here though I will say, you need to try to work on using softer coloring so that your images are easier on the eyes and not as jarring to people on first impressions, which will often cause a repulsive response. There's no incentive to rush to put art out, take one image idea and spend a solid week working on it, little by little, thinking of what details you can add to either the character or background, relax while doing it and remember art is never a race and no one's expecting or demanding quick and immediate uploads.
