My First MFF Trip
I know, I'm a little late at posting this, but I've been busy with work and other things. But I wanted to let you all know I had a blast at MFF 2017! The journey had lots of great moments, but also a few adventures.
Let's start with the ride in. It was the first time I'd ever booked a flight on my own, and it went smoothly. However, since I flew with Southwest, they landed at Chicago Midway instead of the closer O'Hare airport. I expected my ride to be waiting for me at the airport, but by the time I landed, he was stuck in Iowa, driving all the way from Wyoming! I ended up taking a taxi to the Embassy Suites. Unfortunately, one of my roommates, still on the road had booked the room for the three of us, so I couldn't check into my room and rest yet; I had no choice but to wait in the lobby with my luggage for SIX HOURS!! I'll spare you all the details of all the surprises my roommate sprung on me at the last minute, but I eventually was able to get into my room and into my fursuit.
Once I dropped my stuff at my room, I made my way over to the Hyatt to pick up my con badge. After waiting in line for maybe an hour, I started wandering around and meeting a few people I'd only met online before. The next day, I met even more people I'd been befriending on FA and Twitter and my other roommate arrived by airport shuttle to our hotel.
Much of my time at MFF consisted of walking around on my own meeting other furries, getting pics, and of course, grabbing all sorts of delicious food. I also got to meet
FoxAmoore and
PepperCoyote at the Dealer's Den, where I bought a couple of their albums, picked up my Certified badge from
MaryMouse and bought a few other toys, including a giant plush donut, which grabbed a lot of attention from other fursuiters!
The food was very expensive, but also very good. One line served pizza, mac n cheese, and tacos in dog dishes! On the last day, I had Chinese food and beer with a bunch of Mischief Makers furries. To my surprise, one of my roommates had too much to drink and needed to be taken up to our room. I was scared, as I'd never had to deal with such a situation before! Thankfully, he was able to recover while I stayed back and tended to him.
I was honestly surprised at how many ambulances showed up at the Hyatt Regency during the con. Fortunately, nothing happened to me or my friends that we would've needed to call 911. However, the fire alarm went off in our hotel, so we all had to evacuate and stand out in front of the Embassy Suites (It was like college all over again for me! XD) But, if it weren't for the fire alarm, I wouldn't have been able to enjoy a free hotel breakfast, which I had missed all other days due to sleeping in.
Despite the flaws of the trip, I had lots of fun at my first MFF, and I hope to go back again next year! I met lots of great people, and learned lots from my experience. I was also surprised that there were roughly 8,700 attendees this year, surpassing the numbers at AnthroCon! Imagine if they end up with over 9,000 attendees in the future (cue the Dragon Ball Z memes! XD) It was a large con, but that didn't stop me from having a good time! I may not have met everyone I wanted to this time, but there's always other cons!
