They probably went back on that when all the 1-5 dollar donation teirs fled due to a roughly 10-45 percent increase in how much they'd pay out, for an increase to creators of less than the amount added to what patrons were being charge.

More specifically

$1.00 would go upto $1.38. The Creator would only take $0.95 home from that, after patreons fee meaning a total of $0.43 was gone from what the donor put in, to what the creator would get. In the original way in the 'worst case' a donor would pay $1.00, patreon would then take their 5% cut, and then assuming a 'high end' of 30% in transaction fee from that $0.67 would go to the creator resulting in only $0.33 going up in smoke for the same 'bracket' without increasing the donor's donation amount by 38% for fees, overall less, in a worst case, charge would be lost on it's way to the creator (actually the difference is a 33% increase in the amount lost from the original amount lost.

TL:DR, they decided to say 'fuck the little guy' and it's biting them in the ass.

surprising they did wow. at lest that's good that they did sheesh that was a stupid move of there's as all it did is make people jump ship as they don't want there money most of them are working for hard to go to someone whose just there as a easier way for fans to pay when there's millions more sites out there.. or well at lest 2 more out there and many that could pop up because of it.

This generally a good thing. I suspect what will finally roll out will be approximately what they just announced, EXCEPT it will have aggregation in it. so one 20$ patronage will cost the same as 20 1$ patronages.

The increase in costs was one thing, and may be needed to keep them running... but totally screwing the small donors was the real deal-breaker in this, by trying to charge each and every donation.

Make no mistake, they'll be doing it when the heat dies down. Remember when Netflix raised its prices, everyone went apeshit, they backed down, and then a little while later raised prices anyways? Remember when everyone who swore they'd quit Netflix didn't? Patreon is just biding their time.
