yeah idk 6___9 those guys you linked me to remind me of coldplay and I'm not big on them except for like 2 songs. What I consider to be ambient is like... noise almost? Something that is just barely translatable into a song
I could see maybe the influence of ambient maybe....
but NO this is not ambient. The original ambient album is Ambient 1:Music For Airports by Brian Eno. It's the mission statement on ambient.
Radiohead:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBjk10F6SsA With "Kid A" they started making much more ambient rock music and then with tracks like treefingers made full ambient music. Sigur Ros started as an ambient group and have been steadily transforming into some kind of orchestral rock band. Anyway...no not a good example of ambient.
I DON'T know your musical tastes. It appears you at least like ska, which I'm not really in to. Presidents of the United States of America might do you well.
I don't really listen to them all that much so I guess I wouldn't know :/ As for other music, I'd recommendArcade fire, new Pornographers, Divine Comedy, Los Campesinos, etc etc
Floater! Is a Pink Floyd-ish feel with some hard riffs reminiscant of Tool and can be very ambient at times and filled with stories. One of my all time favorite bands.
Hmm, I would recommend The Third Eye Foundation's Semtex album.
I'm not sure how to describe it other than being a mixture of atmospheric noise/guitar and distorted beats http://senduit.com/2d88e5
Uhh only ones I can think of that'd fit are Streetlight Manifesto, Catch 22, and maybe even Choking Victim, Bad Religion, The Casualties, uhhh....
The Buttocks? Germans!
I'm only just re-getting-into Punk so I don't know many. Generally I just listen to a "The Casualties" inspired playlist on Pandora. My area of expertise is centered around really, really weird electronica.
Figured you'd have most of them; My getting into punk music outside of Streetlight Manifesto and Bad Religion really only started about 3 days ago. Seriously.
World/Inferno Friendship Society
Mustard Plug
The Pietasters
Fugazi
Yacht
The Secret Machines
Bloc Party (Each of their albums has a distinctly different sound, keep in mind.)
Cursive
The Microphones
The Distillers
Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution (If you're not already listening to them, which seems unlikely.)
Also listen to some older ska like The Skatalites, The Specials, and The Toasters (who did the theme song for KaBlam!)
If you're looking for ambient music (one of my specialties), try Boards of Canada, Boom Bip, or Four Tet to start.
Just a couple suggestions to get you started. PM me for a Demonoid invite, if you don't have one.
They're kinda ambient, but still pretty upbeat.
Not sure if it'll suit your taste or not
This page has my favorite songs

Their Myspace has more :D
And if you like Ambient, you -have- listened to Death Cab for Cutie, right? D:
I didn;t realize Ben Gibbard was a prettyboy D:
Uh, if you want more trancey ambience you can lurk around newground's Music. Theres some surprisingly good stuff there.

I know not -all- of these are your style but some are worth checking out regardless.
Listen to 1983 by FL if you can, it's their best imo.
