Zirilon's end of the year update.
Well, I started the year off good. Managed to keep up posting some new things through a good part of the year. Then my work decided I didn't need any time of my own and I was stuck working over 70 hours weeks with minimal time between shifts. This certainly didn't help with any productive activities on my part.
Work finally settled down, just in time for my bad knees to give out again. My surgeon put me on a work restriction that limited my hours per week to 45. My employer, in an effort to keep from burning through all the hours in a couple days and leave my laying on my bed in agony for the rest of the week started having me come in to work last. While I sincerely appreciate this, it did make it so that my morning was wasted time and I had minimal time after my shift.
After a while of this the next fun even happened; I was selected for jury duty and served for three weeks on a criminal trial. This was an interesting event for me. I got a lot of good story ideas and got a nice look into a side of the American justice system I hadn't seen before. I was sick on the first two days but seemed to feel a lot better after that, except for the fact that my vision began to blur at any distance. I could still see what was around me, but I couldn't read anything, not even large signs, unless it was within a few feet. On top of that I was constantly thirsty. I was drinking gallons of water every day, and of course, what goes in, has to come back out. I had to go to the bathroom every couple of hours.
This worried me, I've always had really good vision, and never had any health issues. So I had my Wifey schedule me a doctors appointment. The doctor was equally worried, and called for blood work to be done. A week later I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. What does that mean? Well, my liver, kidney and pancreas are all functioning normal and I do not have an insulin deficiency. That leaves but a single culprit, my body has become insulin resistant.
To combat this I have to drastically change my diet and get a lot of exercise. I'm doing really good on the first one, not so good on the second. The holidays are not making it easy on me. I will be putting a lot of effort into this and hopefully get myself in better shape soon.
