Rant - Thanks for the Watch

There is no doubt about it, this is a rant. Simply me complaining about a pet peeve. A complaint that will most likely make you utter "Get over it you egotistical bastard" and proceed with some other choice words. And while that may be the truth this is something that annoys me to no end. (This is targeted to no one, im not upset with ANYONE, this is just a pet-peeve, like people not using their turn signals anymore. Please do not get upset or take this personal. I feel that if i do not ask these questions, something will pop inside my brain. None of this journal is looking for a serious answer, and im writing this in the most asshole way i can manage while still keeping it in a light mood.)
Now, i have to know, just have to.... do any of yall actually enjoy receiving "Thanks for the Watch?" Does that comment popping up make you happy, and All the more to be thrilled to see that comment is in your shouts section from the guy you just watched 5 mins ago? Does the copy paste reply that you could get equal enjoyment from "TFTW!" just make you all giddy? (I should be typing this much faster while calling you all susan with a smug look on my face, to further imitate Dr. Cox.)
Furthermore, does it upset you when i dont "Thank you for the watch?" Are those occasional "Deleted" user icons, that pop up in my watch section, actually a guy who got pissed cuz i didnt thank him?
Now i know its very egotistical of me to find that receiving these odd comments annoys me. I know that the reason i dont like them is because they get my hopes up cuz im one of those attention/comment whoring bastards. You could even go as far to say the only reason i post stuff is for the sake of more numbers next to that letter "C" when i log into this site. And no, being able to delete the shouts later only keeps my userpage from being nothing but "thanks for the watch" and i still get tricked by the false +1 comment.
But you know what i think pisses me off about it all the more. Its my own ignorance on the issue. You see, i have no idea how much larger i have to make the bold letters at the top of my userpage, that spell out "Please dont thank me for watching you" before people will stop doing it.
Once again, targeted to no one. I wanted to rant for rants sake. If you do like being thanked for watching someone, i actually do understand why you enjoy it for the most part. But for me, when im hoping to receive comments on my work, whether praise or crit, or someone bitching at me for one reason or another, it alwaysr stings when i click on that comment in my control panel just to see that it is in my shout section from the guy i watched a bit earlier. It probably wouldn't bug me that much if they werent copy paste replies. (Might as well just say "TFTW!") But i know if they werent copy paste replies, they probably would have read my "Please dont thank me the for watch" message at the top of my page.
Love and Peace!

I'm sure some do enjoy it. :E
The watches is what gets me though. I watch someone because i hope to see art posted from them in the future. I dont use watches as a measure of rating or popularity. The only reason i could see someone thanking a watch is that they do use watches as a form of rating or popularity, which they really should not do, because some really good artists go unwatched simply because they are not popular at the moment.
Furthermore, most thanks are not real thanks. They are the analogy of those thank you for the business cards you get from your insurance company. Pre-recorded and produced in bulk.
It is kinda nice knowing that my watching someone is appreciated...but isn't required.
I understand one can get annoyed by random thanks for the watch shouts....
anyway..I will continue to enjoy your art..
For me I usually thank them back for the lols :D
Besides, if people want me to leave a shout on their page, the better way to do it is to leave *me* a shout, and then I'll usually shout back. :P
And yah, when you can copy and paste what you are shouting on peoples pages, you probly should just stop.
I know what you mean about the comments and excitement though. There have been a lot of times where I commented on several works and whatnot before leaving, and then when I came back I saw that I had new comments, got a little excited, only to be disappointed when I discovered that the comment was just a "thanks for the fav!" message. =P
I love your avatar, btw. =P
If they say they apprediate it in thier profile into then that's awesome too. But blowing us off totally is a little jerkish. IMO at least.
If I ever thank someone for watching I try to do something other than the cut and paste response.
I get so few comments that I'll take anything I get (though "X has shouted on your userpage" is almost guaranteed to me a TFTW), but that's just me.
The thing is that it is redundant. There really is no point in it except for more people to give and get more comments. It really wouldnt be an issue if EVERYONE didnt do it, or if they actually took an interest in each other. But the simple fact is that its basically like everyone has a "Thanks for the watch" script bound to their keyboards.
"Need a dispenser here!"
"Need a dispenser here!"
"Need a dispenser here!"
Eventually its just gonna be a joke.
Anyways, i typed that out with something of an insult in it and i do apologize.
Also.
Ze dispensah goes HEAH!
ANd I only fave art I like, so that, too, is true when you say it's a measure.
I have so far never thanked anyone for watching me, mainly because I have no art for them to watch for, so it makes me wonder why they watch me. I'm strictly a watcher, and have thought about becoming a critic, but at the same time, doubt I should do so for the fact I have no art of my own for others to critique.
I would love people to ask my opinion, but I don't give one where it is not asked.
Hehehe..the rest is just you.
I know this guy here. He actually un-faves and watches when people thank them, links their journal through a note, and then bans the user from his page.
It happens more often than you'd think.
And before he put up that journal, he got over 70 of those messages a day.
