It turns out that when he was at my parents place he had managed to swallow thread and a needle (He likes to chew on string/thread and I think they left out a sewing kit and didn't know), the surgery went well but he'll have to stay at the vet for a couple of days to give his small intestine a chance to heal. I'm anxious but glad that from what the vet said he's doing better than before the surgery.
