Well they're rendering another website and its service another paper weight. Seems to the running theme of this decade.

There might be a way around it by using the newer Skype + the classic/desktop Skype. (Not sure if that'd work)

Oddly enough the newer skype actually deletes installations of the older one O_o

All I know is the update deleted the old executable and installed the new program to a new folder.

I stopped using skype long ago. I can't even use the account I want and the hotmail account in a web browser. If i sign into my web browser for my personal email for real life shit skype will log in using that for a desktop client nearly a year ago :| Its a fucking joke.

I use Skype, but I've never enjoyed it...plus it sucks cellular data out, like mad.
