New year, new art tools?
General
With the New Year starting, I realized that I've now been drawing for a little more than 8 years. It was Fall 2009 when I decided I wanted to be able to draw my own art, bought a pencil and a paper block and started practicing on my own. I started with Mass Effect art, as back then I couldn't find the art I wanted to see, and I was too shy to dare to contact any artist and ask them for a commission (both my English and knowledge of how things worked on art sites were not very good).
At the same time, I had been a lurker for many years on various TF sites (most of them being considered as dead places nowadays when it comes to browsing for TF art), but I knew my art skills and my understanding of anatomy were not good enough yet to allow me to draw TFs matching my own expectations.
I bought my first Promarkers in early 2011, about a year and a half after having started drawing. Since then, all the time spent drawing has been about finding and improving my techniques, completing my colour collection, finding the best paper for my style.
Now, it's been years, and I often wonder if I should purchase a tablet, in order to practice with Digital inking and colouring, as I sometimes feel like digital colouring is somehow the next step for me to explore more art techniques (without dropping markers of course). With work and all, it is difficult for me to colour full illustrations so I don't know if to be able to apply colours over a traditionally drawn sketch could help reduce the amount of time required to produce coloured pictures.
I know little about the huge variety of existing tablets and tools for digital art. But I think a tablet coming with a screen one can directly draw on would make it more comfortable for me.
I'm torn!
And why am I torn? Well, one reason is that for many years I kinda imagined that switching from markers to digital art could be like giving up on my own art style and what defines me on the Internet. It might sound crazy, but it's always been a very serious thing to me!
So yes, just know I'm highly considering purchasing a tablet and practicing with digital colouring this year. Don't worry, I won't bother you with it or upload pictures as long as I don't think it's worth being shown.
Take care =)

But if you think that it feels wrong to you, since you already said that you are torn, you can still stick to your pens!
I'm not an artist (sadly) but I can tell from experience that trying out new stuff often results in new and interesting things.
In short: Try it! If you fail you can at least say you have tryed it. If you succes you have an enourmes expansion of skills and tools at your disposal.
And i would be pleased to be bothered with your pictures if you try it ;)
I can't draw well - but even I managed so paint some nice looking stuff with it - and during an art jam this weekend, a friend borrowed it from me and the result was really amazing...
I guess someone with your talent could draw incredible things with it ...
The modern tablets (S3 or an iPad) have really good sensitivity and precision - so you should definitely take a look at them.
Anyway - if you go with one of the normal tablets and you find out that working digitally is not your thing, you still have a nice tablet to watch Netflix, take notes or just play around with :D
But no, tablet doesn't mean giving up on your style that's for sure xD
But it can take some times to be able to reproduce it on digital.
Try to blend both from time to time and do what you would like to do :) We bought a tablet screen through amazon because it was a really good deal and still haven't really used it >< its being used more as a computer screen atm. >< But you have to have the drive and time to do it which I know you have the drive!
Now about the tablets, I have used a few of them and for me the best ones that emulate the sensation of paper is the ones from Wacom, they are very good but here I will tell you the same advice that I recieved a time ago when I swiched to digital, it is truth that he ones with in-build screen are the best (they are the cintaq line) but they are also the most expensives (the cheaper one is around 2000 usd) so I believe that the best thing to do is to buy a cheap one (around 100 usd) and see if you can really get used to digital, and then if you do, and if you want, jump to the cintaq version (otherwise you could end with a beatiful and very expensive ornament for your desk), however you can keep working in the small one, I have a wacom intuos pen and touch and it has worked fine for me so I haven´t feel the need to change it, again is up to you.
first: thanks for posting as tell all of the artists, I cant draw so i enjoy all the stuff you and others put out.

I redid my kitchen cabnet lights for like 35 USD, if i bought it here it would have been over 500 USD. so your mileage may very but is a good option for getting into digital. Its also using an IPS panel that is bright and near great color.
Actually, I would be interested in seeing how it goes.
I guess what I'm saying is, find a happy medium. Don't be afraid to add something new to your repertoire but don't abandon your markers :)
You have a talent for markers.
If you can apply that to Digital art via a Tablet. You'd be unstoppable...
No more need to replace ink...
Seriously though, post your practices in your scraps (if you don't think it is amazing).
Since I for once want to see your progression from before. To after. :P
And since i don't say this enough to people.
Good luck (Though you have talent so luck isn't a requirement)
