Who uses Refsheet.net? (ToyHouse Alternative)
8 years ago
Hey all!
I recently decided that I didn't want to keep using sta.sh to collect my characters and their artwork, and was looking toward starting to use my Toyhouse again.
It was really difficult to use however, and after tweeting about going back to trying to use TH, someone suggested I try out refsheet.net!
So far I really like it,
its really sleek, straightforward, and easy to use.
Its really similar to sta.sh in a lot of ways actually -- you just drag and drop and upload images.
You can select to mark things as NDFW and/or HIDDEN so that only you can see hidden content.
Its got a nice minimalistic looking design and honestly everything I could want from a reference/character website.
Theres even an option to put your character's hex-code color coded palette reference if you don't have a legible actual reference sheet or if its pixelated.
Unlike ToyHouse, refsheet doesn't require a code to create an account; anyone can make one for free.
I suggest people check it out, its a nice site, but I'm mostly making a journal to ask if anyone else uses it because I want to follow some peers on there!
You can follow people like on dA or whatever and see people posting their art and characters; I always enjoy seeing friends, mutuals, or random interesting OCs so link me if you use RS!
Here's a link to my account. I haven't uploaded all my characters yet, but I plan to put all my characters here that I want to keep and use, and then sell/trade the rest I have because I have way too many tbh.

Like i have a say in how the profile is laid out rather than having the site do it for me.
I also feel refsheet.net is much more simplistic in terms of characters, on toyhouse i like how you can build a character profile for more than general information of the character. You can show roleplay stats and such on toyhouse.
here are examples of mine.
Imogen profile on refsheet.com

Imogen profile on toyhouse.
https://toyhou.se/1474571.imogen-eyre
In the end I think it depends on how much work you want to put into a characters profile.
I unfortunately don't know html/web languages that offer that sort of customization and don't have the time or patience to learn. I really like utilizing tools already available on the website and like things being as simple for me as possible x__x I can add lots of info in designated areas, but favor it being easy usage ;v;
I already watermark my images or don't feel the need to watermark them again when putting them in my character gallery because I upload things as they are given to me by the artist/how the artist uploaded it in their gallery so its already out there :U if I feel worried about an image, I tend to watermark them myself, like character ref sheets are watermarked by me with my links and tweaked in the exact place I want them to be ^^
I think both can be fine sites depending on what youre looking for; for me, TH was really difficult and slow to use and navigate ;0;
But i totally understand, i mean i have both XD
I might use both, but definitely use Ref sheet as like a character art gallery :3
I believe I won my TH code in a free raffle a while back, its how I got mine, but I unfortunately didn't use it much bc it was so difficult to use and navigate for me and I has having trouble even uploading my reference sheets bc they were so large. TH used to give users codes for being long time members but i think it switched to giving codes only to people who paid premium membership? i really didn't like that, its super cliquey feelings and you shouldnt have to beg to be able to get a code for the site.
some people were even selling or auctioning codes and desperate people were shelling out like $100 for someone to give them a TH code, it was really ugly
Mine's https://refsheet.net/VJCoon
you can also add hex coded palettes to the page.
another neat thing is that the site is still small, and the creator likes to be in contact with users; i did a little exploring and if you go tot he top left and hit forums and dig through, theres a forum for site improvements or bug reports with sub sections for reccomendeations of what you might wanna see on the site; if its a good idea or other people want it too, they might put it in, so its worth letting the person know n__n
I might try to find the time to go on the improvement forum and complain about how it can be a bitch and a half to center and position the main thumbnails XD
Being able to add fields has been a blessing though. I love the customization there. I wish more sites had that option.
I'm definitely a fan of the hex code palette too.
I might have to see about dropping the suggestion
Sounds like it could be worth pointing out for certain. I haven't quite experienced it just yet. I've been mostly focusing on the text based fields thus far
Yeah, that would be nice.
more simply, it is a website where you can upload your original characters and their information, visual reference guides, and the artwork made of them in a very organized and pretty looking way so that people can enjoy and read about your OCs easily, or if you want to commission artwork, it gives an easily accessible data base for your OC and their artwork which would be helpful for an artist :)
