Sometimes, someone just has to say it

Dude, I thought I was over this, but I am seeing newer artists who don't have that great of art, pushing YCHs that nearly AB at 5x their normal prices! This is not ok! This is not a good business model. YCHs are what pay to win is in video games. Yea I am comparing The YCH format to EA style scammery. I can respect when a YCH is used once and a while, and the pricings on everything are within reason, but to notch up an AB that far? I would have more respect for the artist if they just left out an AB system and just let too morons get into a bidding battle. Even more annoying is more artists I (used too) watch are moving over to Patreon only and YCHs only. This cash grabbing scam is just out of control!

That's called easy dough, ma boi, and it will keep persisting until the fandom finally says a collective "stop" to all this - to the point when both YCH and Patreon will not be enough to put some food on your plate. Then, there will be a flood of the artists back to FA and other sites, in hopes of regaining their old, significantly better rep. Because I honestly doubt that people that have been drawing for a living for years will suddenly go to a full-time day job (maybe with a few exceptions)

Don't like it, don't buy it. I find YCHs to be a rather interesting economic phenomenon.

Probably the worst mistake is acting like being an artist is something you can make a living out of on the internet. Some can, with the right audience and proper financial manipulation. Even then the chances are very low though. It's like pretending everyone can be a youtuber. There's only so much demand, and in such a niche market, you'd probably save more time just getting an actual job...

Ikr. There is insurance, no 401k, no job security, and you have to do ALL the work on your own. The artists trying to make a living have to Jack up their prices to get by, but that also cuts into their customer flow. I mean even if you could draw fast and charged 100 for a commission, you would need to draw a picture in 2 days evenly just to make the same as someone who works full time at 15$ /hr.
That's a lot of work and frankly I have seen too many artists burn out or get depressed from sitting at a screen all day.

I mean even if you got a part time job and still did art, that would be better.
