I keep my accounts split. Honestly I find it easier, since I have a lot of young watchers here on my main account. That and, I prefer to be known moreso for my non-adult work ^^

If it's easier for you to use one method, why take the time to go about it the long way?

It really depends, some people have made it work, but usually sell commissions from both accounts and then consolidate the list or limit the list for each to a smaller number so the final total would be same as one account.

Some artists do it because they work as actual freelancers outside of the furry community so they want to make sure that their NSFW stuff is not easily linked with the stuff they do outside of the community.

I did have 2 accounts for my SFW and NSFW art....it was both hard to keep up with and of course people dont pay attention to who's account belongs to who when wanting to sell art work plus I didnt have as many followers on my NSFW account compared to my main so it didnt get much attention. So I just archived the NSFW account and just posted everything to my main just like I did before.

It's a very personal choice. There are too many reasons for and against multiple accounts, so it has to be you the one giving each the importance they make to you to pick the final choice.

If you do 50-50 porn and clean art it'll be a hassle going back and forth between accounts so it'll be more efficient to dumb everything on a single account and let the watchers chose if they see the adult art.

If you have a brand besides your artist name you might want to have separate accounts and manage that brand as a separate entity while the other represents you at a personal level.

If you don't have enough hours on your day it'll be more reasonable to have a single account for everything and cut time from the back and forth between multiple accounts managing their comments and notes by separate.

Splitting your effort and uploads into several accounts you get several accounts with slightly less watchers instead of a single one with extra watchers, as you split your demographic.

Dunno, I can go on with more reasons, but as I said what reasons are relevant to you it's the matter. :P

Also, paying customers are not typically prudent or minors. So, unless you want one account to do vent journals, I don't think it helps much.

I think your adult art would get more attention if you were to post it on this account, as I imagine this account being your main account generates more watchers etc. On top of that, it'd take away the inconvenience (if any) of running two accounts. That said it's entirely up to you, and whether you have no problem running two accounts etc. I have no strong personal opinion on the matter and it might not make any difference either way you do it, but it could be beneficial to you to use the one account :)

This discussion is going on with quiet a few artists in the last couple of weeks. Most of them settled for the approach I too would advice:
Keep the old NSFW-acc as an archive, upload a few select (all time favorite) NSFW-works onto the main account with links to the archive and from then on upload everything on a single account, maybe with SFW- and NSFW-folders in place.

i once did separate my nsfw/sfw arts. it was pain in the ass and im sure i gained more watchers with keeping these together in one acc than separating them. I only once got a really nasty letter for my nsfw arts but it's really nothing considering i have it like this for YEARS now.

I personally keep them separate.

My NSFW to SFW ratio is something like 1:10 so its not a hassle to upload in different accounts.

I have a considerable amount of watchers on each account which is awesome because I can pick and choose what kind of commissions I want to work on for different audiences. I often see that the more NSFW art you post the more of that audience it attracts and the more NSFW commissions you get. Which personally Im not super interested in that.

Could I have more watchers if I consolidated both accounts? Yeah. Do I care? Not really. I have 2 very engaged audiences with my art regardless of the numbers, I still make money AND I get to keep my brand mostly clean and adult artwork free to use at other types of convention and sites.

It works for me, but its up to you to see if the things I listed matter to you.

Also forgot to add that my adult account even though it has like 10% of tthe art volume has 2k more watchers than my main. So it is not impossible to make a side account work.

It's up to you. But FA does have filter options. If people do not wish to see adult stuff, they turn it off in their settings.

Sometimes porn accidentally gets overlooked and posted as general, and sometimes good art that's barely mature gets listed as adult and blocked from view anyway. Not sure how exactly that filter works but it hasn't been great IME.

Plus there's a branding/ personal image thing. Yes there are some pretty talented artists out there that do NSFW work, but honestly I think the people who aren't specifically looking to see it do tend to hold the 100% clean galleries to a higher standard. Nothing wrong with adult artwork, but it's refreshing to see an account that is nothing but well drawn art instead of just a bunch of dicks and cocks and boners and buttsex. Especially the creepy fetishy stuff...

I know there's a lot of it out there and to each their own, but it's nice living under the illusion that there are still a few people left here that aren't furry pervs, this site has gone down that road pretty steep in the last couple years. I can't help but sigh when an account that I really used to love all of a sudden starts making 80% of their submissions hyper cocks and vore and characters that have penises in place of where their nipples should be etc, and I ultimately have to hit that -watch button.

One account. I somewhat detest trying to remember to whom which account belongs. Besides, FA has filters for NSFW, so...

I thought about that matter a lot, and came up with the idea that only one account is better (for me) : it's easier to update and you have everything centralized on only one place, it saves you lots of time + you have all your watchers (so, potential commissionners) at the same place too, some people don't like to follow many accounts for the same artist, i understand them. Adult piece have an adult filter, it's not really difficiult if as a watcher you want to see only general art, to hide the mature pieces, or just delete it without opening it.

But it's all up to you and how you see things! i know i'm terrible at updating multiple galleries, that's why i refuse to have several account on the same website ahah, and also cause i don't like the idea of have my watchers here and there everywhere, too :p But there's still many people doing it, so it means that it still works, somehow so... ;)

If you use the same handle elsewhere and don't necessarily want it to be easily linked to NSFW stuff, then two separate accounts makes sense. Otherwise, if you're fine with one account as your 'art' account, that works too. It's more what works best for you. :)

A extremely small amount of artists have the empathy to put themselves in the position of their fans, since it's not only about you. It's about the other 200 artists the average person in FA is following. Imagine if all of them had two accounts. Or more. And of course, a Tumblr, twitter, instagram, or any other random non-gallery-friendly site. In short, most of the time, trying to follow furry artists is more of a 30-site-nightmare than "I'll just sit down and look at some art"

I know there are people who don't wish to view the adult stuff, which is fine. After all, that is why FA installed the SFW button.

They have ways to filter it, both with the SFW button and with the fact that adult pictures in FA must be *explicitly* activated in the control panel.

i tent to like the separate as slips do happen even with sfw on, and while i don't mind it, if you end up with far more nsfw than sfw, i'd just switch which account i would watch ya from and that would guaranteed i wouldn't see when you are open and such as i rarely visit that other account (usually to mass nuke it ) i do read the journals for sales i usually have missed XD

It would seem that the overwhelming consisus is that one account would be appreciated. The fact that I don't post in my other account often also had me teetering on the verge of switching to a single account again.
I will likely keep the other account viewable, as a holder for the art that is in it already, but don't be surprised if you see me posting some of my favorite adult art pieces on this account as well.

In the future, I'll just post all of the adult art that I want to post, in my main gallery here. :3

Well, I don't like tits and I don't have a filter on. I just ignore the things I don't like.The filter would leave less to ignore for someone who only wants SFW art. I still think that's completely the fault of the viewer. Filter it if you want, ignore what you don't like if you don't place a filter, or just ignore something that should have been filtered that happens to slips through. It's really not hard to do. It's a personal problem, not the problem or an obstacle for the artist to deal with.

Don't feel special. I look at a lot of people's profiles for a myriad of reasons. In your case, it was to confirm my suspicions that you were a tool. There was even a mini discussion on it elsewhere. Like's cars, speeding, profile pic of you peeing on a cop car. Good example of a conceited person who thinks the world revolves around him and complains when he's inconvenienced. All I was saying is that you stating "if they don't want to see adult art, they should have sfw on" is bs because you yourself admitted the filter doesn't work every time, and the fact that I have eyeballs that work makes it kind of hard to ignore something that is visible. I don't have a huge problem with NSFW art hence I don't have the filter on, but I get so sick of everyone saying "well if you don't like it just ignore it" about everything. It can be a picture of incest necrophilia and some people feel entitled to post whatever they want and just say "too bad ignore it". Sorry, I can't un-see things, never learned that skill. And FWIW telling someone you hate tits isn't a great way to get someone to take you seriously... lol

Me? I am a person who Enjoys SFW art. I live on the SFW button. If ana rtist I watched for SFW draws some NSFW, I just delete the NSFW afterwards. Super easy. (Also I never knew you did nsfw at all. Usually people with alt accounts link it on their profile)

ALSO, I would like to let you know that FA's filters DO work for accounts for users under the age of 18 from personal experience since I joined FA before I was 18. There was no way for me to see Mature/Adult content on my account until it finally hit 18, and the site was more tame than DeviantArt.

On the artist standpoint, I think that you should post art content you enjoy making no matter what, so if you enjoy making nsfw, then you can post nsfw content.

It just depends on the kind of art. The site-wide filter isn't as practical as it sounds. There is plenty of NSFW art that I'm fine with popping up on the site or in my notifications. However, there are some kinds of art that I don't much care to see. As an example, I don't follow your adult account because I don't want to see feral porn, or anthro/feral porn. Generally speaking, the more of that kind of art an artist puts up, the less likely I am to continue watching them. So, for someone like me, who wants to see -selected- NSFW art, the catch-all filter is mostly meaningless. In that light, separate accounts has been great. <3

Couldn't have summed it up better. Some adult work is still nice to look at art-wise, and some is not what I'm comfortable viewing. Unfortunately I've had to unwatch a few artists I really used to like because they merged accounts and all of a sudden their submissions were like 80% fetish porn. Hitting the SFW button isn't the perfect soution

I honestly don't see any artwork as 'porn'. Erotica, maybe.
Personally, I can enjoy the artwork as a piece of art, even if I'm not fond of the subject matter. What matters to me is technique, color, lighting, and overall management of the piece of art.

If people can't appreciate the artwork for what it is, instead of just seeing the subject matter at face value, then what's the use of looking at someone's gallery in the first place?

Let's not nitpick over semantics between porn and erotica; you obviously understood my meaning. Regardless, aesthetics covers a very broad scope, and technique, color, etc. are some aspects of that, but so is subject matter. That's why lyrics in a song matter. That's why some people are only on FA and not DeviantArt. There are aspects of any art that, for someone, will detract from the overall finished product. That's individual aesthetic value. For me, one of those aspects is as I previously mentioned, and that's a valid stance to have. All the lighting in the world doesn't mean a thing to me if the subject matter is repulsive; I won't see the technique, because the final product is something that pushes me away. To flip it around, why is it only an issue if YOU are grossed out? ;)

Its only an issue if I'm grossed out, because I'm the one that has to stare at the image for hours on end while making it as realistic as possible, and I'd like to hold down what little food I'm allowed to eat. :3

Meanwhile, I can love the sound of a song, and hate the lyrics, or a certain aspect of a song.. but will still listen to it, because I like the music. -shrug-

The fact still remains that I'm merging my accounts. If you notice a piece that you don't particular care for in small format, don't click on it to view it in large format. Skip over it. I see things all the time that I don't particularly like. That's what I do. I'd keep them separate if it were up to me. Not that I have a problem with NSFW artists, but it's refreshing to find a talented artist that doesn't have a gallery full of cocks. There's a whole branding thing going on. When I see a gallery full of clean art I think "wow look at all this great stuff". When I see a mixed gallery I think "wow some of this stuff is great, but meh there's a lot of other stuff in here too" TBH I really didn't even know you had a NSFW acct. You're still one of my favorite artists here and one of the first I followed on FA I will like your artwork either way, but I always thought it was cool that your gallery was 100% clean.

The same way everyone is saying "if you don't want to see it then you should just turn the SFW filter on", well if they really want to see porn so badly they can just go watch the other account. That filter doesn't work perfectly all the time. Plus they have entire websites full of nothing but yiff, there are no clean sites left that I know of. There can hopefully still be a few individual galleries left that are clean. FA used to be the harmless one, now not so much. Of course everyone would say make it all on one account, it seems that porn is all anyone here is interested in. No wonder the world thinks all furries are pervs...

I usually don't watch adult art on FA, so I just turn filter SFW on and don't see it so it doesn't matter if there would be an account with both kinds of art.

I personally feel like managing 2 accounts just to keep SFW and NSFW separate is a bit unnecessary.
What most people view in this fandom is porn and/or fetish stuff. You see far more artists with a high number of watchers if they draw some sort of fetish or NSFW content.
Besides, Furaffinity has a button to toggle if you want to see NSFW content or not, so I'm pretty sure (or at least hope) that if you are one of those who do not like NSFW content that you got that filter on.

So for me I say stick to 1 account.

In my personal opinion, if a site is designed to have an effective well function filtration system, or a bear minimum system with compliant users, I personally see no reason to separate them, ESPECIALLY if you're just going to publically advertise, haha.
That only goes so far though, as I do have art accounts on sites that are NSFW only due to not feeling confident in their filtering system/absence of a filter system. Some sites I keep as SFW only without a NSFW secondary page due to the audience I see there, or if I intend to share the page to family/friends/non furry public (like my Instagram for example).

Why don't people realize they can turn the adult rating off through account settings? If they're somewhere where they want to avoid porn, then, yeah, there's the SFW button. I really don't see the point in making an adult account unless you want your professional name to be disconnected for potential clients outside of the fandom or if it's fetish work. I say combine them if it's easier and the above don't matter.

As a viewer/potential commissioner rather than an artist, I hate when there's seperate accounts. It's artificially inflating my already cluttered watch list and it makes it stupidly easy to miss something.


I say, post it all to one account, and if anyone wants to cry about it just tell them to stop moaning and click that little button that filters out NSFW posts sitewide.
