I always saw you as more a "What is good in live, Conan?" type, myself.

Four years ago I'd have answered "Hell no!" to that question. But out of morbid curiosity I began studying archetypes, behaviors, stringing together the life stories of the people I knew and looking for the similarities, and I'm sad to now say that I think we are.

I felt like that too for most of my life. My studies over the last four years brought it into question though, and now having read this article, I realize I am not so outlandish as I once believed. Or at least parts of me aren't :)

It's funny. I've described my mind as having one foot in reality and one foot in my imagination for years now and it's interesting to read an article that talks about just that! Although I don't necessarily agree with everything in that article, I do feel I have a better understanding of my own artchetype. I still don't know if my vivid imagination is a byproduct of of that archetype, or if the archetype is the byproduct of my imagination, but it's fascinating to think about.

what really shouted out to me in the article was the idea that the way a typical male copes with relationships almost is ingrained in our generation from these types of movies, where the reward isn't really "true" and brings to suspect things that fall into your lap unless you have some sort of struggle or story to achieve it. Sometimes, things do fall into people's laps, but we're brought up to always be suspicious of those sorts of things right to the core. It doesn't feel right unless you "earn it", even in relationships.

Earning it the normal way may not even be enough; to those people out there who are insecure about our own position in society, you can only feel secure by "proving" your worth through things like success, money, a good job, whatever, and then and only then can it somehow be "okay" to fall in love. It's really whack and can be emotionally debilitating in the long run I think

This is fascinating subject matter. Thought provoking even.

haha. Job had nothing to do with it. Sorry for getting torn between all the different obligations; when the con first started I had nobody to hang out with whatsoever and by the end of it there were quite a number of different people and I feel like I was getting jammed into other people's social situations and kinda felt like a pawn at the end of it x_x

This is why if you noticed me acting strangely, I was trying to pull the reigns in on my self-determination regarding what I felt was me trying to be obligingly polite. I think at one point I ended up being the unknowing middleman for some interpersonal drama between two other parties that night, and didn't have much time to be sociable while I was trying to gtfo of a potential drama bomb I felt was about to go down :t

But yeah, I didn't feel that kung fu shit at all. Without trying to sound elitist, at that convention I still felt relatively comfortable because of my impression of furries in general makes them seem relatively harmless to me. Individuals however, can still go around and give a bad impression of you to others, which is out of people's control. The main thing bumming me out at the beginning of the con was that all my roommates 'cept for one had to bail and therefore I had to exit my comfort zone and try to hook up with people there on the spot, and I kinda didn't like doing that because I don't trust people I haven't met in general :V
