"oh my god you have to grind to get what you want omg you have to spend weeks getting what you want out of it omg I can't just go shoot and fly around omg what kind of MMO is this?"
Shut. The FUCK. Up.
You buy an MMO and then get mad cause it's a fucking real gamer's MMO and you can't stand the fact that you have to work to get what you want.
You can't stand the fact that this game doesn't hold your hand like the childrens toy you call an MMO.
NO. Fuck you. Elite Dangerous is a game that hands you a dollar bill, slaps you on the ass and throws you out the door in the middle of the fucking Galaxy and says, "Good Luck." That's the kind of game it is. And just because you can't fucking stand it, doesn't make it a bad game. Either man up and take the heat, or shut up and go away..

I'd like to think that most people who think E:D is bad aren't upset about anything you think they're upset about—they're probably upset that they've wasted time and/or money on something they just didn't enjoy at all. And there's nothing wrong with not enjoying any particular thing, and nothing wrong with expressing such opinions.
That doesn't mean there's anything wrong with enjoying it, but people leave those reviews when they don't enjoy a game because games are about enjoyment, and recommending one is difficult when you can't find enough enjoyment to make it worth your while. But it's not lacking in popularity just because people left bad reviews (I've seen a fair balance of positive and negative), it's lacking in popularity because of the choices the developers made when deciding how the game will play.
Many people just don't like for games to be ridiculously hard and time-consuming, even if they do have a good reason for being that way. And that's totally okay.
They whine and complain and bash people for liking it and make stupid comments like "No Mans Sky was better!" When it's a completely different game.
Like I'm fine with someone not liking elite.
"It takes too much time. It's learning curve is too steep for me"
But there's a difference between that and
"It controls slow as fuck and leaves you dying hoping to god you finish what you need to get done only for a shitty small payout and to get blown up right away."
That review is littered with the bs im talking about. Of course it's a slow game it's a simulator. Of course it takes time to get big money, it's an MMO as well. And of course you get blown up right away you have a small ship and ran into trouble, and that will happen.
But just because that person doesn't like it doesn't mean it's a bad game, in fact, In this case, it did it's job pretty damn well. It kicked his ass.
Im not trying to be rude or offensive, but I'm sort of trying to highlight what my point is
But despite disagreeing with you, I think I see where you're coming from. It's certainly a little frustrating to see a game get bashed on for being exactly what it's supposed to be; I personally get a bit annoyed when obvious walking sim games that are very well made are written off for being...walking sims, as if the developers didn't intend it when they very obviously did. I just don't think it's worthy of any real anger. In the end, I believe that people should say exactly what they think about games (and all forms of media).
