CHARACTER UPDATE: Sans Wadjet

Hearken to me, my subjects!
OOC
Etheras has been around for awhile now, and as I've experienced playing as him and getting artwork of him, I've discovered that - much like Jaspian - there are some design decisions that I regret. Thankfully these "problems" are small and can be changed (I'm converging on the perfect fennec character ;P )
One of these "problems" that I have identified is the Ancient Egyptian iconography. Etheras was always intended to be a science fiction villain character. So why does he have an eye wadjet ("Eye of Horus")? Why does he have an ankh earring? These anomalies have lead some to the conclusion that he's an ancient Egyptian prince, not a Galactic Overlord. Contrariwise, some have combined these 2 styles and misinterpreted him as a Stargate character. Neither is correct.
The truth is that, to some degree, Etheras is an evil distillation of Jaspian - my first fennec character. Jaspian had some Ancient Egyptian trappings because that was part of his story, and unfortunately I copied them over to Etheras when I probably shouldn't have. Also - I think that the thick Egyptian eye makeup can sometimes be a bit of an eyesore (no pun intended). Sometimes when I watch art streams of artists drawing Etheras, I think he looks better before the artist applies the makeup.
So these aspects of Etheras don't really fit, and I would argue that they are unnecessary anyway. Etheras is iconic without them - and maybe I'll do a journal sometime about character design and describe why I think Etheras stands-out so much. But in the meantime...
... you're likely to start seeing pictures of Etheras with, and without the wadjet. There are a lot of images that are in-progress, and I'm not going to ask the artist to change the eye makeup if it looks good. The ankh earring might take a little longer. I want to come up with a logo for Etheras's empire, (but I haven't settled on anything yet,) and that will likely take the place of the ankh.
Anyway - what are your thoughts on this? Do you think it is the right move? Do you want to dissuade me? Comments below ^.^
Cheers,
~ Lord Etheras

As for a logo I can see some sort of wings being involved in the symbol of his evil empire.
Your questions as to "Why have this?" seem like they would be better suited to expanding the background of the character and of the setting that the character comes from as a "working backwards" exercise, which would further your understanding of background details of pictures that would enhance the overall pictures.
So first, I think it needs to be understood that if these details are in fact makeup and jewelry (two elements which inform important details of the character such as 1) makeup and jewelry is an indicator of wealth, 2) the character cares about expressing wealth), then there will be situations where the character will NOT be wearing these things, which could be situations that could make interesting pictures. For example, if the character is sleeping, makeup would make a mess of his pillows and the earrings decorated with chains could catch on fabrics which would be uncomfortable.
So you don't need to feel like these details always have to be present. If there is a time when Etheras does not have to deal with being in public, would he wear his makeup? Some people have a baseline of makeup that they enjoy wearing for the sake of it and it's part of their morning routine. Same goes for the jewelry.
Regarding the Egyptian motif... It's pretty clear that you designed the character to basically be a Space Pharaoh. You've got the ruler element, you've got the veneration element... You went with a pretty distinct theme there and the Egyptian iconography really hits that home.
Now, this doesn't mean you can't play around with the iconography some. You might consider altering the Ankh to have some slight variation to it, maybe adjusting the eye wadjet a little, so you evoke Egyptian iconography without strictly being those particular things. You have this option available to you.
And you really should consider this, especially in regards to the background of the character and how it relates to him. For example, what is the symbol that this character uses to represent his house? What imagery would he have his important messages sealed with that indicate it's from him? What would he have presented on his banners? These kinds of details really breathe life into the setting that the character exists in and helps make the setting into a more interesting thing to explore and see.
So, to sum things up, your character is stinking filthy rich and he'd probably bling himself out because it is a representation of his power, influence and attractiveness as how he'd probably see it. Makeup, jewelry and clothes are some of the quickest go-tos for blinging yourself out. And if he's gonna be nude in some of the pictures... well clothes aren't an option there.
It wouldn’t be unfitting for an eccentric super villain type
I'm somewhat dumb. x.x
But, I agree with the other people here. I'm personally cool with the makeup, makes Etheras's otherwise simple design unique and distinctive. I personally really like simple designs with little flourishes, which is what I did with most of my characters, with the exception of my dead horse Isaac, who is probably the most complicated. x3
I never payed much attention to his eye makeup, It was always the ear jewelry that caught my eye.
I think a change would be a good thing.
To figure out a good symbol, I think you'll need to have a very solid grasp of who Etheras will be and what he truly values. I think the five H's would be a good place to start, if you're looking for someplace to start. Who, what, when, where, why, and we'll just throw in how for giggles. Who is he? What is he/his goals/his ruling style/etc.? Where does he want to take his empire? When will it happen, why does he want to do it? How will he do it?
Going off on a tangent here, ever since you posted a Lovecraft-themed piece, I've had a headcanon that Etheras is a demon of some sort, ruling over his own dimension. It's the only way I can believe him having as much power as he does, but that's just a theory.
You just get Bruce wayne and peter parker. Etheras would be becoming just some fennec with a lot of power, rather than a well known and recognised Lord to be feared and respected. I see the art Etheras is in and try to imagine them without their decorations and it just feels...wrong.
