what a wonderfull website! too bad the "what to do if you spot an injured bat" page was so painfully short.

i once had to help a small brown bat, it was at a popular shoping mall, there was a small brown bat laying in the middle of the walkway, heavily disoriented, it was rather small for its species around here and my friends and i assumed it to be rather young, carefully guiding it into a corner for safty and watching over it untill mall security came buy, he expressed slight concern as there are usually alot of bats that time of the year at the mall (it was early spring) and called the "guy in charge of handleing bats" while my friend went inside to get a box for the bat, the "handler" came out with a black plastic trash bag, the bat was still alive mind you, we told him we were takeing the bat to an animal shelter, so we did. even if they had to euthanize the poor little bat it was alot better than stuffing him into a plastic bag and god knows what else. so...long story short the animal shelter/clinic will not take him (whom i fondly call 'lil E')and seemed...disinterested in helping Lil E. simply stateing the only organization that took care of bats was the ....local police station? the police were JUST as baffled as we were when we showed up at there doorsteps with a bat-in-a-box.
altho i wish we could have done better for the bat we had to leave him at a rather out of the way graveyard (parks were teeming with ne'erdowells, it sounds cliche but it had alot of trees and was kept free of preditors)) and realeased Lil E

Well, I am sorry that there wasn't more you could do for the bat. Many people just don't seem to care or even if they don't they don't have any ideas of how to actually help.

You did the right thing by taking him to the shelter even though they couldn't help and an even better job at leaving him in the wild, where he belongs. Let's just hope that Lil E is doing well. :3
