Hey guys! Long time no chat. Skip down to the page break if you just want to get the the redouble and merchandise topic.
For the free art raffle hungry people, I have one going on here on my instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/Be_hr_S.....rainbowfoxyart
Follow me on instagram and twitter if you want free art; I will be switching to offering free art events from those 2 venues mainly to build an audience there (and also because despite having less followers on both those combined than I do here, I still get a hundred times more interaction and activity on twitter and instagram, and am finding this site is getting kind of dead. BUT!!! Don't be hesitant to interact with me, I won't be leaving here completely and I always check in for messages on here <3 )
I am also doing a test-project where I do Ko-Fi funded art raffles; if you want to send me a tip for a commission or just because you like and want to support what I do commitment-free for you, anything sent to my Ko-Fi adds up to fund a prize for a public free-for everyone art raffle! https://ko-fi.com/RainbowFoxy
A lot of things have been changing for me, and one of it being my creative direction as a contemporary (and fandom) illustrator. I have been discovering a lot about myself as a person and an artist, and I am discovering the things that I really want to start incorporating into my work and exploring (one of them being that I have found my specific color aesthetic inclinations and I really want to start exploring that along with style).
I'm taking an absolutely amazing class called Artist as Entrepreneur being taught by the incredible MissUpacey and LYFEillustration (instagram), alum 2 year out from my school and I am learning so very much about opportunities to grow as an artist and expand my body of work (and be able to make and sell neat merchandise while doing things I love!)
I'm also taking a bunch of other classes, one being animal drawing with Joe Weatherly, and I am drawing a heck of a lot of animals/bones/etc. I've been kinda MIA off of here, but I promise I'm creating, its just not a ton of finished work, or if it is, it can be a bit of a hassle to keep things up dated and up to speed on here and other places aside from Instagram and Twitter because I can usually barely catch a breather from a crazy schedule x__x and when I do, I'm starting to try to be more present in the moment in my life and make more connections with the people around me. If you do want to see the shit I'm up to though, I post to twitter and instagram daily as of late! I try to post at least a small sketch a day, and you can see snippets of my life from both of those medias. I'm most easily reached on there, too :)
Also! Keep an eye out for when I do my first sequential art/20+ panel art comic >v> I HAVE to do one for one of my classes, and the topic is fandom appealing but also very broad, general, and personal. Sneak peek: it is a comic about friendship loved and lost, grief, and growth. Its very anecdotal, personal, but I feel like its simultaneously very relatable to most people.
Moving forward! I think I am going to start taking a step away from focussing on doing commission work for single clients and start focussing on tapping into the things I find aesthetically appealing, and start creating personal illustrations (not necessarily of my own characters, but art that isn't for-pay by a commissioner). I really want to start putting my work on some merchandise and selling it because I think that would be super rewarding; I plan to work industry post college and can do that on the side, too, if it isn't something I want to primarily do.
Which brings me to the first portion of the title!
REDBUBBLE. Zazzle. A personal shop? Inked fur? Basically selling some GOOD SHIT.
I want to start getting into making broader audience art and putting it on merchandise. I don't have the money at the moment to put down to buy bulk from a manufacturer (at least not for EVERYTHING I wanna do), but print on demand sites like redbubble and zazzle and hopefully make cool art that can be put on shirts and whatnot, whatever people may want! This is something I am going to start doing, and I will post up shop link updates when I start putting things in there. I WILL be doing this and having a shop though, its part of one of my class requirements as part of something to explore.
First and foremost )and most readily available) ill be putting animal drawing drawings and sketches (mostly direct pen drawings lately) up on redouble for ya'll to buy on whatever you like. I'm drawing so much for this class, and trying to explore style and just hope that it will appeal to anyone who likes an energetic drawing style of an assortment of content.
This is sketchier than I'd like for something to put on a shirt, but heres an example from one of my on-site from life sketches and drawings for animal drawing class https://www.instagram.com/p/Be52hSA.....rainbowfoxyart
Bigger and more toward when I have more time in the summer, I plan to get back into illustration with more feeling again. I have spent so much time drawing for people other than me (whether for clients, friends, class, etc), and when drawing for me, drawing something more casually or not as introspective--- I really miss when I would make pieces that really made you FEEL, and I saw the wonderful response when I WOULD post art like that to instagram in particular, and I want to get back into that.
I want to do an animals and nature series in ink (that could be colored digitally or traditionally) with natural animals, and I also want to do another similar thing with anthros and animals and hopefully have those up on redbubble too.
I recently worked on a zine piece for Knotty Boys (see preview and ad/info in my gallery! The 18+ book for boy and shibari lovers is super sexy and very worth it) and I am experiencing a growing interest in participating in collaborative artist zines. This first one I joined in particular is being printed by Inked Fur; I checked the site out and am VERY interested. I like that theres an assortment of content/merch you can have made, and how artist-positive they are. I really want to try making dakimuras, mousepads, and other fun stuff!
OH! Another thing!
I am really into art books. I personally love sketch collections that artists make and print, and I really want to look into doing some of those if anyone would be interested (or not. I think it would be cool to do regardless, but interest and preorders would definitely help with costs). I'd want to make sketch collections (thematic, i might divide them into my animal drawing, figure drawing, and personal sketchbooks so theres a variety, and one can be just furry content, and maybe i will get more into the nsfw art scene ;} ) and a more finished, polished works art book down the road when I have a collection of finished personal works that would be worthy of that. These are just some of the things I have been exploring and wanting to pin down for what I want to do in the next 5 years.
OH BEFORE I FORGET: I want to do thematic series coloring books. These works will follow some sort of theme, and will likely end up in red bubble or any art books, but I also want to compile them into coloring books. Some stuff i am toying with are natural anthros and nature coloring book, one with folklore and animals, one with dragons (I need to do more dragons in general...)
ADDITIONALLY! Something I want to do that will be smaller tier buys are stickers, enamel pins, and post cards! Maybe even book marks, literally just tons and lots of fun little things where you don't need to drop hella money on a commission to have art in your life that you like. I want to get into merchandise buying and making, its just.... so cool. One thing I really wanna do is post cards, and sell those for $5 ^^
IN SHORT: I want to take some steps away from focussing on mostly commission work and look toward things that are a bit more stable or long-run rewarding and will help me find who I am as a person and artist. I'll be posting works to red bubble if you wanna check that sort of thing out! But SIGNIFICANTLY: I want to build a body of work to do these things with so that I can start going to conventions and have things to offer and sell and be a part of that bustling community. I have still NEVER been to ANY convention (and I am thinking of doing Califur this year, VERY considering it!).
If you REALLY want to get custom commission work from me, I think I will keep doing small commissions (sketches/lines that are scanned). I think I might start limiting large scale comms more or offer them as limited slots? I don't think it should be too much of an issue though its not like I get a lot of interest for comms anyway atm lmao. But in general I think I might start focussing a bit more on content to put on merchandise, or, if I have time in the summer for comms, ill do a lot of small tier things. I still need to shovel my way through an old queue that I feel guilty about X__X there isn't a lot on it, but it can still be worrisome and guilt-inducing having to put it aside while I try to juggle a hectic life.
TL;DR: Foxy is busy with A LOT OF SHIT (namely school), and wants to start making more art "for da masses" or art with emotional meaning/just looks cool af which will be available on redbubble VERY SOON. Follow on twitter/instagram if you want to see art and slice of life stuff EVERY DAY. Thats right, art DAILY. I want to embark on a journey of making a LOT of projects, and start attending conventions. Raffle every now and then on twitter and instagram(pLEASE follow me on there if you have an acc <3 ).
If you stuck through and read all my rambles, thank you so much! and thank you (regardless of how much you read ;} ) for supporting me on here and elsewhere, it means the world to me <3 <3 <3
